The fact that a "mathematical trick to compute the cubic root of a number" video which is just a plain coincidence in the case of three numbers (125, 216, 343) and completely wrong in the general case has over a million likes, tens of thousands of shares and thousands of comments. Comments like "wow, I never understood this shit with roots in school and now I understood in 5 seconds" or "I've learned from this video more than from every Mathematics teacher" or "if only the teachers explained like this" (all comments edited to remove shit grammar or spelling). I also came across this in an article I read today and I think it hits the nail right on the head:(the article is pretty boring '90s nostalgia, but that one little bit stuck with me)

The bullshit going viral phenomenon in general.
TheSoul Publishing was the first media company to surpass 100 billion (yes, 100 billion!!!) views on YouTube. This happened about a year and a half ago, so not exactly news.
Who the fuck are TheSoul Publishing? They're a company founded by two Russian dudes... in Cyprus, which has been used by many as a tax haven. TheSoul Publishing are behind a bunch of channels sharing "life hacks", "challenges", "pranks" (such as the 5-Minute Crafts ones, Bright Side and other shitty channels with similar content). Their content is at best stupid, ridiculous, useless and at worst downright dangerous. Please do not try to punch a shark in the eyes or gills just because BrightSide tells you this is an awesome way to survive an attack. I can assure you the shark has way better reflexes than you and your arm is going to end up in the animal's mouth.
Anyway, what got me started this time: a tweet from a grifter account with the handle "HowThingsWork_" (and screen name H0W_THlNGS_W0RK - I used a different font to highlight something).
The tweet says:and is a accompanied by a muted video of a deer and the hands of the people trying to help.
Except the text accompanying the video is misleading. Even if you don't know your deer and can't tell the only places in the Americas where you can find the particular one in the video (Siberian roe deer) are zoos... the account seems dubious (the account name in all caps, the use of zero instead of capital 'O', the use of small 'L' instead of capital 'I', the punctuation in the bio, the website in the bio) and so is the lack of sound.
So you'd think the reasonable thing to do if your synapses work correctly would be to either ignore or search for frozen deer to see where this comes from.
The same video was posted on YouTube almost 2 years ago. It has sound. You can tell the people in it aren't speaking English:
The viral tweet has a hundred times more views than the original video on YouTube.
It's so immensely frustrating to see how people mindlessly amplify factually incorrect stuff just because it triggers an emotional reaction.

I wasn't even sure where to post this. Things I learned, just the facts, wtf... The biggest car theft in history was committed by... drumroll... North Korea! So I first read about it today and, because this is the internet, my first thought was "is this for real or is this bullshit?" Well, it appears it is. For real. Some 50 years ago, North Korea ordered 1000 Volvos from Sweden. The cars were delivered, but still haven't been paid for. And according to the Swedish embassy in Pyongyang, they're still in use.

Man accused of robbing Utah bank of $1, demanding to go to federal prison
Story by Marlene Lenthang Utah police have arrested a bank robbery suspect accused of demanding just $1 from employees and refusing to leave afterward, instead insisting he'd wait for authorities to arrive. The suspect, 65-year-old Donald Santacroce, allegedly entered a Wells Fargo Bank near 300 South Main Street in Salt Lake City on Monday morning and presented a note to the bank tellers that read: “Please pardon me for doing this but this is a robbery. Please give me $1.00 Thank you.” The employees complied and asked Santacroce to leave, but he refused. In a bizarre twist, he said they should call the police. He then sat down in the bank’s lobby and waited for their arrival. As he waited, Santacroce appeared to complain about how long it was taking for officers to arrive at the scene. “Donald made a statement to the victims that they are lucky [he] didn’t have a gun because it was taking the police so long to get there,” the arrest affidavit said. After he made that statement, the bank branch manager ushered the employees into the backroom for their safety and locked the doors. No one was injured in the incident. When officers arrived, Santacroce was arrested. He gave the $1 bill to the officers and said he entered the bank with the intent to rob it. He explained he committed the bank robbery, a federal crime, because he “wanted to get arrested and go to federal prison.” Santacroce said that if he gets out of jail, he'd rob another bank, and ask for more money until he was sent to federal prison. It's not clear why he was so adamant on going to federal prison. He was booked into Salt Lake County Metro Jail around 6:15 p.m. on a felony robbery charge. He is no longer in custody as of Wednesday. It's not immediately clear if he has a lawyer. Santacroce had been arrested last week by Utah Highway Patrol in Iron County for a DUI investigation and careless driving, found to be using a license that was suspended out of Missouri, NBC affiliate KSL of Salt Lake City reported. A woman who was (past tense) working at the Dacia factory in Romania was stealing components... hiding them in her vagina to get them out of the factory unnoticed.

A guy used an unexploded WW2 bomb for years to sharpen his scythe. This ended up in the news because he argued with another guy over who gets to sharpen his scythe first and other villagers called the police. Who probably made a face like this when seeing what the "scythe sharpener" was. Speaking of sharp scythe... we can say they got lucky the police paid a visit before this dude... --- Another guy stole some bones... sorry, holy relics of a saint from a church.

People wasting their one short life on stupid discussions along the lines of why does a vegan band play a venue that used to be a slaughterhouse? How does that align with their values?
I may have mentioned we just don't have many venues in Romania. Heck, the Vampires played in the parking of an expo complex because in Bucharest, the biggest city in Romania, there simply is no venue of a suitable size for a show like theirs... too big for the Roman Arenas, too small for the stadiums. Wish people understood the choice of venue has almost everything to do with there being a venue, any venue at at all to play and little to do with anything else.

Chinese zoo denies its sun bears are humans dressed in costumes www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/31/chinese-zoo-denies-sun-bears-humans-costumesThis is the video, btw. As it's standing, it does look like a human in a costume because of those ass folds (especially as I saw a still image before I got to see the video, I was convinced it's a human), but the way it moves the lips looks pretty bear like and the way it goes from standing to sitting looks unnatural, unlikely and unsafe for a human. I think this one is indeed a bear. But as the last paragraph points out, zoos in China have been caught with such lies before, so with this kind of track record, it's understandable why people may have a hard time believing it.

Recently, I woke up one morning to find my car absolutely covered in bird shit. Now, you are probably thinking I am a dumbass who parked under a berry tree, but that's the WTF part. There are no trees or wires directly above my car, it's open sky. The picture makes the branches look closer than they actually are, but nothing hangs over the driveway. There is nothing in the vicinity that birds hang out and eat either. The lake where they congregate is nearly a mile away. The shit was splattered in a way that I could tell it was dropped from above and they weren't sitting on it when they went. My driveway was relatively clean too, sans like a 5 foot radius around my car. The flying vermin used it for target practice.
