Alice Cooper Recalls Jimi Hendrix Giving Him His First JointMartin Kielty Published: April 4, 2021 Alice Cooper recalled how Jimi Hendrix gave him his first joint — and then told him that a vibrating bed was a spaceship. In a recent interview with the SDR Show, Cooper discussed his first and worst drug experiences, years after having cleaned up his act. Listen below. “I’m sitting there after the show. I went to see them,” he said of Hendrix’s band. “[W]e were just a little high school band, but they said, 'Hey, come on up to the hotel room.' And we were sitting on his bed, and Jimi goes, 'Here, man’ [with a joint], and I went, 'Okay.’” The singer said that, during his first weed experience, “[Hendrix] goes and puts a quarter in the bed – you know, the vibrating bed. There was like eight people sitting on the bed. And he goes, ‘We're on a spaceship!’ And I went, ‘Okay.’” Cooper went on to describe the most negative experience of taking drugs. “It was Detroit, and I think it was crystal THC,” he said. “It was like four in the morning. I kind of regained consciousness … I got up – I remember it was about 20 degrees below outside – and I walked outside just in my shirt on, just to wake up. And when I came back in, everybody was just kind of coming up. It was weird; it was like a [Federico] Fellini thing. It was so strange that I really did believe that everybody was dead and that I was the only one that survived it.” Meanwhile, former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum’s Experience Vinyl company announced a limited-edition replica of Cooper’s original School’s Out LP, complete with die-cut fold-out desk design and paper panties. The 1972 edition was withdrawn when it was discovered that the panties were a fire risk – an issue Experience Vinyl has presumably avoided. The new version retails at $34.98 and will be sent to buyers in July. Feed My Frankenstein over Desperado... that's really sad Poison one the whole thing.. What is wrong with this world? Ignorance? Rationally, I can understand that it was his biggest hit (with most people who are still alive and voting) and for a lot of people may be the only song from him that they know and like. And I can understand that even if someone gives another random song off that list a try, that one song may not be everyone's cup of tea and these days people just lack the patience to go through everything and pay attention to what they hear in order to see see if they don't like anything better. When I first came across his music, I was a student, I had no internet at home and the way I listened to his stuff was by borrowing CDs from the massive collection of my then boyfriend. I went through albums start to finish. There was nothing to distract me, it was just me with my computer at home. And as I said, no internet, no email notifications or any other kind of distractions. The internet has definitely fucked with my ability to focus. Insomnium have recently had an album poll. As I expected, Shadows of the Dying Sun came in first. It's not the one I voted for, I discovered them with their first three albums, but it would have been foolish of me to expect anything else when I know all too well how the floor starts shaking at shows when they start songs like While We Sleep or Ephemeral. I follow a Motörhead fan account on twitter and they've had such song polls for fun. Unsurprisingly, Ace of Spades won. Definitely not my #1 from them, wouldn't even make my personal top 10, but it is their best known song and, for some, the only Motörhead song they know. Which I know was frustrating for Lemmy himself. I do recall him commenting on that saying something along the lines that they made some twenty albums, why can't someone who likes Ace of Spades just give them a listen, surely there must be something else they would like among all those songs if they like that one. So yeah... I think it boils down to this: the internet gave people access to all the music in the world, but it took their ability to pay attention to it. And it's a bit difficult to get into something if you don't pay attention to it. I find that I remember more of the albums I listen to these days if I listen to them while making lunch (or doing something else that doesn't involve being connected) and not while sitting in front of the computer. Going to live shows also helped because a lot of times, I would leave with new faves. I never got into Enemy of God until I first saw Kreator live. I had actually seen the setlist before and I was meh about it being in there. I had no idea how much I was going to enjoy it there live when actually paying attention to it. Of course, time is precious. Is it worth spending it on a musical discovery experience that you don't know in advance whether you're going to enjoy or not? Well, never try, never know*... *That piece of wisdom comes from the unlikeliest of places. Back in 2012, David Ellefson was posting videos from the places they visited on tour. And in Bangkok, a dude who was trying to get clients for a fetish bar and approached them with "we got spanking show - never try, never know" For some reason, that stuck with me.

Grabbed tix this morning \m/ Got a code? Well, I got the code from tomass, but unfortunately I don't think my wife would know enough of the songs to enjoy it, and a 4 hour trip by myself doesn't sound that fun. Tickets are pretty cheap though!

Tickets are pretty cheap though! He is doing a show on Gilford NH too. I think it is a Saturday night as well. Could be your last chance to see him. None of us are getting any younger. You only live once. Do it!!!
