rockandrollgarage.com/producer-jack-douglas-says-aerosmith-musicians-rich-lazy/Producer Jack Douglas says that Aerosmith musicians are rich and lazyBy Rock Staff Published on 02/20/2018 Producer Jack Douglas commented in an interview with Best Classic Bands about the differences when working with Aerosmith and Cheap Trick. According to Douglas, who produced classic Aerosmith albums like “Toys in the Attic” (1975) and “Rocks” (1976) and the recent “Music From Another Dimension” (2012), Steven Tyler and Joe Perry’s band consists of “rich and lazy” musicians, while Rick Nielsen’s group still has work to do. “The guys at Aerosmith … God bless them, but they’re rich and lazy, except for Joe (Perry).” They do not have a work ethic that never goes away. they do not want to record new albums, “he said. Before retiring Aerosmith plans 50 year world tour Jack Douglas also revealed a curious stance by Steven Tyler with regard to Aerosmith’s compositions. “Steven says, ‘I have other people who can write for me and it looks like I’m writing.’ ‘It’s great that they can do it if they want. Cheap Trick would never do that.” Then Douglas praised Cheap Trick. “For Cheap Trick, it’s all work, they live by work, when you go into a studio with them, there’s no bullshit, it’s work, and I love it … They’re my brothers, just like Aerosmith “, said.

hmmm...not sure this is 100% accurate. Brad doesn't seem to be too lazy, and I bet Tom would be willing to do a lot more given the opportunity. Steven and Joey on the other hand 'seem' to be content with a lot of idle (not Idol) time. Who knows though? We only see what is shown to us. I'm sure Jack knows the inside story more than we all do.

I think you’re probably right about Brad and Tom. I also agree with Jack Douglas’ remarks. Lazy may be too strong of a word, complacent could’ve more accurate. Joe had a comment in an article shared last week that i found insightful. There are several tunes they’ve either never plaid in concert or have shelved. But, I also think that there is some laziness. When the casual fans outnumber the hard core fans , it’s understandable that they don’t try to fix what’s not necessarily broken. Of the five, joe seems to be most interested in putting out new product. Even if it is his solo stuff. I think Brad just loves playing, given his involvement with the Hendrix Experience. Tom is the bass player, which is basically an under appreciated role in any band (I know this from experience). Most people couldn’t care less about the bass player, and then is only noticed that he or she isn’t there. In many ways I think any hope of new material is futile. And yo get quality material is even a bigger pipe dream,

Probably not as rich and lazy as Jimmy Page.
I really am a Jimmy Page fan, but, man, not a lot of output since LZ.

And, he is always pushing for a Zeppelin reunion but Plant thinks he's too good for it now. That being said, they are hinting at a one off show for the 50th anniversary, Plant included.

My understanding is that Jimmy and John made no effort to consol Robert when his son died and he never forgave them. But them Page/Plant happened so who knows.

I think there is some serious paralysis by analysis with them. Off the top of my head, some excuses I recall for not recording new music include; worrying about committing to a full album, logistics of writing and recording, having hits, production costs, airplay, setlists, promotion, diluting their catalog, something for everyone etc. At this point there is no pressure on them. They can write, record and float whatever they want out there. Will it be profitable? No, not directly, but showing they still have a pulse and are actively working on stuff should help their brand and counter this perception that they are rich, lazy and have mailed it in.

I'd say that they have gotten lazier when it comes to touring. They usually hit the same old same olds to play the same old same old. I looked up-out of curiosity today- the last time the boys played Bone to Bone (Coney Island Whitefish Boy). November of 1995. Thats just one song of a 300+ catalog that is constantly ignored for 16-17 constants or semi constants.
At this point I don't want them to record new music. I'd just like it if they would play the music they've already written.
