Cats have a precise method of walking called direct registering. Their hind paws fall inside the place of their forepaws, minimizing noise and visible tracks, while ensuring more stable footing.
Bobbi Stevens of St. Anthony, N.L., says she was completely unaware of the polar bear sitting on the roof of her Northern Peninsula home Sunday evening.
It was probably for the best.
"My dog came and jumped on me and then took off running, so I thought there was somebody at the door," Stevens told CBC News on Monday. "I opened the top part of the door and looked out, and when I looked up on the bank above my steps this polar bear was looking me in the face."
Stevens said she got quite the scare from the bear, who climbed onto and off her roof using a tall snow bank, seen in security video from her neighbour's house. Stevens said she's thankful the bear didn't damage her roof.
"My roof's not that strong and I only have one door on this house.… One less nail and he might have come through," she said. "I'm just glad I didn't know he was there when he was there."
Yup, very lucky.
This is a Smart Fortwo:
A polar bear may weigh more than such a car (which is even a bit on the heavy side compared to most microcars).
The incident is the latest in a number of recent polar bear sightings on the north coast of Newfoundland and in Labrador. Agnes McCarthy of Goose Cove, also on the Northern Peninsula, got a close look at two polar bears as they took a walk through her driveway — one of them checking out a neighbour's house and then returning.
"He went across the road over to another house around there, then it came back again. I was out in the door with two pans," McCarthy said, laughing.
She said other residents on her street were working to move their bears out of the area, with one resident even shooting a gun into the air to scare the bears away. The RCMP are asking residents to keep their distance from the bears if they see one and call police or wildlife conservation officers.
Out in the door with two pans?!
No, no, no! Get the fuck in, lock the door and bolt it tight! Unlike other bears, polar bears are hypercarnivorous. They're also bigger than all other bear species. And they're among the extremely few creatures that actually see us as food. And will increasingly do so as we keep fucking with their chances to get to their preferred food.
By the way, know what other animals are hypercarnivorous? Cats. All cats, big and small. This cute fluffy kitten is a predator (in spite of all the kookoos who think they can make their cats vegan).
You may know how their claws and teeth feel. Now imagine that little kitten was the size of one of those small street cars.
A little workshop in Minokamo City, central Japan receives countless requests from across Japan to repair damaged clothes. Kaketsugi, or invisible mending, is a technique for repairing holes or tears in fabric. The shop is run by a father-and-daughter team: Kataoka Tesshu, with 40 years of experience as a craftsman, and his daughter Goto Yoshiko. The pair research weaving patterns in fabrics and are able to use a needle to accurately weave threads into gaps as small as 0.1 millimeter. The program follows them as they restore the cherished garments they receive.

Seems like it's full of shit news about shit things shit people do and this shit gets a lot of attention just because they're rich, loud and obnoxious.
So here's the complete opposite of that.
Ever heard of Peter Praschag?
Well, until recently, neither did I.
Sunday, 15th of August 2021, I checked out of the hotel in Vienna, left my backpack there until evening and went to the zoo. I was feeling kinda sick when I arrived, so one enclosure I ended up visiting early on was the toilet. And there it was, on the door of the toilet stall, the picture of a turtle and an info bubble underneath. With the "Rette mich wer kann" (whoever can, save me) headline. Well, that was heartbreaking. Turtles have been around for over 200 million years, since before dinosaurs. They've survived three major extinction events, including the most severe of them all, the Permian-Triassic extinction event, which may have wiped out over 95% of the species on Earth at the time. They're tough. But I guess not tough enough to survive being a delicacy on the menu in a country like Bangladesh, only slightly bigger than Greece, but with a population that has more than doubled over the past 40 years to surpass 160 millions nowadays.
Anyway, that message on the door also made me curious to learn more about these turtles and the conservation project. The zoo has even made a documentary on it:
They were almost extinct in the wild just a little over a decade ago. The breeding initiative got started at the Vienna Zoo and was successful in this species in captivity for the first time ever just because of one guy from Graz, Peter Praschag. At the age of four, his dad, also a biologist, gave him a turtle to care for and he developed a passion for these animals. This lead to him building himself a sort of Noah's ark... only focused on turtles. It also lead to him learning a lot about turtles. He probably packs more knowledge about them than anyone else in the world. Him offering the Vienna Zoo a pair of his turtles plus his expertise was the starting point of this breeding and reintroduction into the wild initiative.

doriansaero: Hi, I can't find even 24/96 of Toys in the Attic and you mention that it is available in DSD. Do you happen to know where I can get it in DSD or even 24/96? Thanks!
