Loved and revered by many such as me, hated buy others do to it’s in the raw in the now nature. Express your love for this way underrated album considered by me the true comeback album. Sad I couldn't repost all the replies from the old thread but I'm way too lazy heres a few to get started: ************************************************** Let The Music Do the Talkin' live '84 I believe this to be closer to the JP Project version played by Aero. ******************************************************* Listen to this version of The Hop then try to tell me with a straight face it doesn't rock your @ss off: She's On Fire with a very Cheese Cakeish intro: Video not that great but damn does it rock!

I really enjoy this album but I don't think it's perfect all the way through, the keyboards on The Reason a Dog kind of kill the song for me and Shela has got to be the only Whitford song I don't like, I just really don't like anything about it (the ending solo is pretty great though). But the album defiantly has more good than bad on it, Gypsy Boots just kicks major ass and She's on Fire could've been a huge hit i think

I love every song on this album, but my favorites are LTMDTT, The Hop, and Darkness.

I love every song on this album, but my favorites are LTMDTT, The Hop, and Darkness. Party foul on my part, totally forgot about LTMDTT . . . . \m/ . . . kicks ass in a way Joe's original version does not, lyrically, Tyler's Aerofication of it brought it 'round Full Circle.

The COME BACK ALBUM we waited 5 long years for (seemed longer). I must confess I was disappointed with this album when it was released. It felt like a big step backwards, rather than forward. I know they had to "start over," and in many ways this was their "first" album of their "second" career. The album did grow on me and i have a better appreciation for the rawness (not as in "hard," but as in "incomplete and minimal"). What actually bummed me the most was using "Let the Music do the Talking." Even though the music was supposedly written while Joe was still in Aerosmith, its appearance on Joe's first solo album (which I love) is the definitive version for me, so the DWM version just doesn't work in my ears. This album did highlight clearly for me that Brad's playing had gotten better while Joe's had not. All in all, I now have a fondness and appreciation for this album, especially since they still rocked back then.

You bring up some good points jj. Most people (myself included) tend to think of DWM as the last 1st generation album rather than the first 2nd generation album. The reason is obvious though. They were still doing things more closely to their roots on this album, and the MTV, shiny new Aerosmith was still in the factory getting assembled.
The debate on LTMDTT is one that seems to pop up repeatedly, and with good reason. I guess it all depends on which version you heard first. To me, it will always be the Aero version that kicks the most ass. The JPP version sounds awkward to me. But then, I only heard that version for the first time around 3 years ago.

Aerocooper--I always saw it as the "first" of the second career because the sequence of Mirrors, Vacation and Pump reminded me of the sequence of Aerosmith, Wings, and Toys. To me each album sounded better, songs were better, and playing was better. This had me highly anticipating Grip (it would have been the "Rocks" of their second career). Some strong songs on Grip, but to many mid-tempo MTV polished songs for me.

Yeah, I see your point, and technically you are correct of course. It IS the first album of their reunion. It really has a totally different feel though from what I refer to as 2nd generation Aerosmith, which began with Permanent Vacation.

With you on Vacation being the Pivot Point for the Second Generation Aerosmith. Funny I didn't realize it at the time. Was just excited for a new album when it was released.

From Wiki:
"The title is a double entendre, referring both to illusions that are "done with mirrors", as well as members of the band quitting their drug use (such as cocaine, which is traditionally snorted off of a mirror)."

I'm prob going to be unpopular here but I consider this to be their worst album to date. I would much rather listen to mfad, jpp than this. I think this could have been a great album I really like let the music do the talkin but other than that all the other songs really lack, for want of a better phrase, the X factor.
My fist your face is ok but no better in my opinion than filler from other albums or even songs left off other albums like head first.
Shame on you has a great lick but doesn't have much more than that the lyrics are terrible and seem like random sentences could have been last childesq but isn't.
Reason a dog, best lyrics but awful synthe when you want a guitar solo and the ohhh' in it seem positively lazy.
Sheila too many yeah yeah yeahs sounds like they couldn't be bothered to come up with any better, would prefer to listen to lover alot
Gypsy boots having re listened to this could again be great. It's more enjoyable than I remember but I'm just not a fan of the guitar sound in this one.
She's on fire again a great lick, but again just promises to become bigger and then doesn't and falls flat.
The hop ok but again just filler to me
Darkness again Stevens singing just sounds painful.
All in all a lazy album where even the guitars sound like they'd rather be elsewhere. I think raw= Their first album Or the bootlegs off the back in the saddle tour but not this.

Thanks for the pics. That Asian one is hilarious. Has anybody heard the interview that Steven and Joe did about a week after DWM was released? It is probably about 45 minutes long and was titled "Talk This Way" on the CD that I bought. It's pretty interesting if you enjoy the history of Aerosmith. They were still hopeful for the record, still resistant to making MTV videos except for concert-style, and didn't actually claim to be clean at all!

I've always really liked this album. I understand why people don't, but to me it's a fun album that rocks from start to finish. Even though it sounds like it was recorded in a large empty room, I like what Ted Templeman did to capture their live sound.
It's not a definitive album by any means, and outside of LTMDTT doesn't really have any standout tracks, but song to song it flows and is as consistent as anything else they've done. It's also a great workout album.
