Come on you all give it up for Brad, He flies under the radar a lot but his guitar work in my estimation is exceptional and that’s putting it mildly. Truly the unsung hero of Aero. I’ve said in once I’ll say it again the motherf*cker can jam.

It sure sounds good. Interesting about his old guitars, wonder if Brad's sons ever check them out (great pics btw)

Brad has long been an anchor in Aerosmith, holding the band in the pocket. He demanded a higher level of playing live when they reunited and the led the way with some stellar playing (especially on the Vacation tour). Subsequently, he has kept the bar high for the band. I believe it really helped Joe elevate his playing since the reunion. Now if we could get some more songs from him and more spotlight in the sets!
Anyone know what happened to Brad's BC Rich guitars from the 70s? First time I saw them in '77 he played an Eagle, and in '78 he played a blue Bich. Haven't seen them in a long while. I know he had to sell some guitars--a shame if these went that route.

Welcome to the forum jj, and great post! I have never heard that about Brad demanding a higher level of playing after the break up. Is that something you read, or just your opinion? Either way, I agree. Brad and Joe both inspire and push each other to new heights I think. They are a great team musically.

Coop (if I amy abbreviate your username), I read that in a guitar magazine around the time of the Mirrors or Vacation tour. Brad reported he had listened to tapes of the band on the previous tour (whatever that was) and was not impressed. He took to demanding tightening up sections of songs, especially during sound checks on the next tour. It has always been said by members of the band that Brad has the "ear."

Good info, I wasn't aware of some of that. But to be fair, Steven is also known as quite the perfectionist task master. And Steven also has a very good ear, with his father being a classical musician he was constantly exposed to 'perfect' music during his formative years and it really showed once he became the ring leader of Aerosmith. Just ask Joey, he has a few horror stories to tell of Steven riding him constantly trying to get that perfect rhythm and sound.

Coop, you are right about Steven, of course, especially in the studio. He seems to often become the conductor for the band, more so than perhaps the producer. And I recall from the Making of Pump video Steven driving Joey nuts regarding timing. Still, on stage it seems Tyler is more interested in the spotlight. As front man, he needs to be, but the last several tours with the catwalk I think have taken a lot of focus away from the band as a unit, and made it more of a Steven show. This has inflated an already near bursting ego--and we have what we have with set lists and new songs. But I digress.

lol...digression is a good thing. It is a shame about how the band is all about Steven these days to some people. I guess that is true of any band though, the lead singer gets all the glory and the band is just so much window dressing. As a guitar player and lifelong Aerosmith fan, this is doubly hard for me to stomach when I'm at the shows and the girls are screaming "I love you Steven!"....and that was my stepdaughter ffs.

I recall that pic of Brad with his Porsche. Don't oft see Brad singing, though I do recall from the Cal Jam 2 videos he did back up on Draw the Line during the outro.
Anyone else here on the forum see the Whitford St.Holmes band back in the early 80s? I saw them open for Billy Squire. Brad played his black Les Paul from that era, and a red strat style guitar with a whammy on "Action." I was psyched to see the show, and they did not disappoint.

A couple of my favorite Brad videos...
Solo on Mama Kin
Brad on Voodoo Medicine Man
Another great Brad jam...
But yeah...Brad is probably the most under rated guitar player of all time.

Great videos.
1. Always loved this solo on Mama Kin-and on a Gretch no less
2. Aerosmith was still known as a hard rock band--listen to the audience sing along with this less well known gem.
3. Why Brad loves Strats. Coaxing a lot of different tones here. I still prefer the warmer crunchier sound of a Les Paul, but this is darned good!

And this ladies and gentlemen is why Brad should have more spotlight in the setlist!
