I... seem to be going through stages. Last autumn I was furiously going through their old shows, but now I've avoided listening to Aerosmith over the past few weeks. I honestly don't know how much that has to do with the current state of things or not. Yet... while I can control what gets played, I can't quite control what my mind gets fixated on. And that has been Another Last Goodbye this morning.
I want to thank you for the ride...
It's pretty much how I feel about Aerosmith right now. 20 years ago this winter was when I first heard Jaded on the radio for the very first time. It took about three minutes for one song to undo years of brainwashing. You know, you go to school and you have mandatory religion classes and you get told about how rock music is the essence of all evil and get shown "documentaries" on how it promotes satanism and violence... you just get drilled all that into you, but you've never actually listened to the music because it's just not something people listen to in your environment. But some bands like Aerosmith make it on mainstream radio. And all it takes is one song coupled with a childish curiosity. One snowball that ends up triggering an avalanche.
It's a lot more than they put out a song that made it on mainstream radio and I really liked. They opened the door to a whole new world of music. One that I had been told for years it would be wrong to explore. They took the "wrong" label and tore it to pieces. It was life-changing - I can't imagine my life today without it. So many things I got to discover while looking to feed my curiosity. So many people I met going to concerts. Wanting to see them live made me tough, made me resourceful, taught me how to get around. It changed me in ways I'm extremely proud of.
When we were going up the stairs at Waldbühne, I was hyper. I don't know what else to call it except exhaustion ecstasy. Being so tired you could sleep for a hundred years and yet feeling like a bouncy little monkey at the same time. And I so didn't think it would be the last time I'd see them. They so didn't feel like a band retiring. Now... if I never get to see them again, at least I know it was good. At least I know it was something I'm grateful I got to experience.

Kings And Queens on the radio the other day. Very rare something like that would see the light of day on regular radio. They do a bit called The Electric Lunch on clearchannel station were they take all request and ask people to dig a little deeper than the normal stuff they play (which of course doesn't always happen) Nevertheless if I'm not doing anything around lunchtime I'll que up the station because there's a better chance of hearing something out of the ordinary from any band. K & Q was my reward Monday.
