Ugh, here's some shitty news my friend just texted me. Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away unexpectedly at age 50. I just watched the Foo Fighters Studio 666 Movie the other night. My father was streaming their Loloapalooza show in Chile the other day. I was watching some of it and the band looked healthy and strong. WTF......

I always liked this song that he sings lead vocals on.
You can see him having a blast in this tweet Steven posted recently wishing Dave Grohl a happy birthday. Taylor was the big Aerosmith fan in the Group. Life is fragile.

My dad's brother died at around the same age back in 2006. Heart attack. A distant cousin died in 2015 at the age of 42. Heart attack. Two people I've met through work have lost young daughters, both under 14. Cancer. I know it's not a pleasant reality, but people do die young for reasons that aren't accidents, murder, suicide, drugs or witchcraft. And yes, I've seen the Blabbermouth headline about the claim that white powder was found in his hotel room. Didn't click. I thought it was low of them to post that. But hey, it's clicks, engagement for low effort. Why put in the work to make a decent article about the man's music that's not going to generate as much interest that they can sell to advertiser for money? Because sadly, most people are at that level of pettiness. At least Blabbermouth are doing it for money. Side note: I absofuckinlutely hated literature, but I remember this one poetry I had to learn by heart in elementary school about a brilliant scientist who thinks he'll be remembered for his work and gets told... basically that nobody's going to care. His entire work will be summed up in a two line phrase in a puny footnote. There will be no compassion at his funeral, people will be there and talk about him just to polish their own reputations. And posterity is going to be even crueler. All will want to show he was no better than them and what they can't understand they'll call evil. And above all, they'll look everywhere to find flaws and sins and little scandals. All the petty troubles of a poor tormented soul will seem infinitely more appealing than his life's work. Because requests to respect privacy do nothing.

He also consumed large quantities of dihydrogen monoxide but you don’t see that being touted anywhere… coverup!

Sad.
Y'never know, but I kinda doubt it was drugs or suicide. Flukey/longshot medical event seems more likely. Hereditary issue, heart, clot, aneurysm etc.
2nd bandmate loss for Grohl. Tough one..

Yep. 😔
Although the report I read listed, weed aside, a combination of pharma type drugs. No mention of heroin.
Regardless, shitty deal.

It sounds like he suffered a heart attack and had a lot of drugs in his room. Supposedly he called the front desk complaining of chest pains. They sent emergency responders but it was too late and they were unable to revive him. Out of curiosity, I searched for articles about mentioning any previous drug use or sobriety. He had some interesting takes on the subject. Then in an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock a few years back, he made these comments. From these comments it sounds like he still used drugs, just less than before. He doesn't explicitly say he still uses (for obvious reasons), but certainly doesn't imply that he stopped. Sounds like mountain biking was an alternative, not a replacement. Maybe old Aerosmith wasn't the best musical choice at the time. They glorified the stuff as much as anyone. I think entertainers often need drugs more to get into the right mindset than they do to feed an addiction. There's a lot more to performing than just playing their songs. Night in and night out, it's their job to make everyone in attendance feel like they are at the greatest party ever. Fans pay good money and travel long distances to get a break from the shit in their lives. The performers are people too and have their own crap to deal with. If they can't conceal that at showtime, they're not going far. Sometimes they need help, which can come with a lot of unintended consequences. I never really got into drugs. I used here and there during my college days if someone brought them to a party, but I would never seek them out. I drank too much and haven't had a sip of alcohol in 8.5 years, but when I stopped, that was the end of my partying days. I can live without it just fine. I work on databases for a living, so it's not problem for me. However, I can't imagine trying to create a party atmosphere each night without any help. Once an awhile sure, but every other day, that just seems like an introvert accelerant. When I decided I needed a break from drinking, I found myself in a bit of a rut. How could what had been the solution to all my problems actually be the cause? I headed to the gym feeling crappy, pondering where things went wrong and how I would get back on track. I had my mp3 player with 2000+ songs on shuffle mode, when about 25 minutes in the aforementioned 'Cold Day in the Sun' came on. I never gave the song much attention before, but it just sort of clicked with how I was feeling at that moment in time. I know the actual song meaning has nothing to do with this, and and I don't even want to know the actual meaning in case it would ruin it for me, but I have vivid memories of that song coming on that cold November night and my mood completely changing. That's when I felt I've got this and never looked back. It's a shame Taylor Hawkins life ended prematurely, but he certainly made the most of the time he had. I used to agree with those who will suggest he had everything and threw it away. If he didn't use drugs he'd have many years left. The second part is probably true, but now I think that's part of what makes them who they are. You can't just remove the bad and get to keep all the good. They are both part of the package that makes them who they are. And maybe that's what people should do, be the best version of themselves, regardless of what others may think.
