So I just got an email that youtube's family premium plan is going from 17.99 to 22.99 a month. Whatever boo. Make your money. I just don't plan on paying that anymore so I'll be moving on. Anyway I was wondering what streaming services you all use if any and why.

I use Amazon music.. I used to use Itunes back in the day and had every CD, Bootleg and MP3 downloads I ever had uploaded to it. I have an Android so when I moved away from an IPOD I switched to Amazon music. I was able to transfer all that music to my Amazon library from Itunes and continue to upload new CDs and what not. A few years ago they stopped letting you upload music which was dumb but I was able to keep all the music I previously uploaded. They tried to delete it all on me once and I lost my mind, Believe it or not they restored it all.
So I still have Amazon which is pretty similar to Spotify. I only use it because I have all those bootleds and stuff uploaded. I think it is like 9.99 a month for the premium plan.

I use Amazon too. I'm on the family plan for $150 a year which allows up to 6 simultaneous steams. I'd prefer to support a smaller company but don't think anyone else offers everything they do. They have just about every album available and their voice activated (Alexa) speakers work really well. Those frequently go on sale for up 50% off so I have one in just about every room. The Echo Show 8 and Echo Speaker (non dot version) are the best values, but there are even cheaper versions if you want to add them as an aux device to your sound system.
There is a basic plan included with Prime Membership that has a ton of songs. I was happy with just that, but then ended up sharing my account with my brother and sister who's kids started using it as soon as they learned to talk. If someone asks for a song that isn't available with a basic account, or tries a second simultaneous stream, the voice activated system asks if you'd like to upgrade to a Premium or Family Plan. The little ones would always say yes, so I've been on the family plan ever since.

I took it as sarcastic, and in that case I agree with it. I don't pay anything for streaming. I buy CD versions of the albums I really like and rip mp3s for my music player. All that stuff is offline and, save for my home with everything in it burning down, in which case I have bigger problems anyway, it cannot be taken away from me. As it can happen if artists' music disappears from streaming services because they either have some beef over royalties or something else, or something about the music or the people behind it is considered offensive from a certain point on for some reason. For all the other stuff, there's YouTube. And I use the Brave browser with pretty restrictive privacy/ anti-tracking custom settings, so that's zero ads. Google won't go bankrupt, they make enough money. As for the bands I like, I actually spend quite a bit more than the $0.07 they'd get from streaming when I buy the actual fucking albums and concert tickets and in some cases even merch.

I have everything I want on my iPod/zip drive already. In the very rare case that something comes out that I like I buy it on Amazon and add it or get it for free from YouTube, depending on the artist and my mood.

Recurring monthly fees are a big taboo for me, regardless of the product. I too buy the CD and rip if I must but I listen to music mostly at home so I put in the CD like the dinosaur that I am.

Yes, I do. I have my reasons. Mainly 1. I watch more youtube then other streaming platforms. 2. I don't like ads and just recently found out that browser youtube can have ads blocked by an ad blocker extension 3. I liked Youtube Music for a streaming service which comes with Youtube Premium and we did the family plan as we shared it with some family and friends. As for why I stream now instead of buying just cds. I can fit my entire music catalog in my pocket and listen to whatever I want whenever I want by just popping some ear buds in. I cannot do that with thousands of cds. I still have my cds. Collecting dust. Everything I ever owned or wanted I can find streaming. Also, thanks for the suggestions. The one I am going to try for now is Spotify. Simply because they have the largest catalog available currently and are offering a free month and have a decent plan for spouses.

I've always preferred physical media over digital with just about everything, but the voice activated unlimited streaming services won me over. A total game changer! It's the ultimate juke box. Any song, album or band I want to hear at any time, just ask the device and it's playing within 3 seconds. I put my CD collection up the attic 4-5 years back and haven't touched it since....Well maybe once. I can only recall one CD I own that isn't available on it. A rare little gem with the Cryptkeeper singing Christmas Carols! I still need to dig out my CD or MP3s when I want to listen to that one. And yes, I will still buy the occasional album to support artists, but like the vast majority of middle aged folks new music I like is few and far between.

I still buy physical media from time to time for certain artists (Aerosmith being one). I'm not knocking those that like cds. They are just becoming rapidly irrelevant. Even our vehicles no longer come equipped to play cds. Everything is switching over to digital so I made the switch and I'm happy. Ana hit the nail on the head on one of the biggest problems though. When artists get into tiffs with the streaming service, or 2022 tries to cancel an artist and demands their removal from a platform. For example, Jimi Hendrix has something with Google as none of his albums are available through Google Music or youtube music. But the entire catalog is available on spotify (one of the reasons I went spotify).

I still prefer physical media but stopped buying CDs a few years ago when I could no longer rip them to Amazon.. I filled that void with my growing Vinyl collection though I will start a Vinyl thread here in a couple days.

I do no streaming.
It rips off artists.

I prefer physical, but have pretty much stopped and migrated to digital. My sons have some interest in taking my albums, but not CDs, so looking to stop collecting so much. Just started a family plan for Spotify. I was not into it for a long while, but did start some folders when I was having some computer issues and couldn't load any music to my phone or iPod. It is pretty convenient, but does not have everything I have on my iPod. For example, they don't have the first Zebra album, or the first two Steve Morse Band Albums. That kind of bums me out. I can upload to Spotify folders, but have to have my computer on to play them on another device. Times, they are a changin' And I am trying to adapt : )
