I've been too tired to reply to that other thread with anything that actually tries to come up with solutions to things that I find problematic (as I'm the person who once tweeted "fork it or forever hold your peace"
).
I like this better, but the even post background could be lighter for better contrast with the dark text. I've played with it a bit in DevTools - it was originally
hsl(31, 33%, 40%) and I bumped up the lightness to
47%. I think that looks a lot better.
Same for the background on
:hover on breadcrumbs/ threads in the thread list/ etc. - the darker background contrast with the dark text is poor. The darker background could be a bit lighter in those cases too, while still darker than normal.
Another little detail: while I'm a big fan of using borders for delimiting elements, I think the
3px one around the quotes and the navigation at the top is a tiny bit too much. Toyed with this in DevTools as well, and I like a
border-width: 2px one better (also, why in Odin's name is that using the longhands instead of a much more compact and easier to read
border: solid 2px #221e1f declaration?).
And now I've just noticed something else that bugs me there... and once you notice it, you cannot unsee it! The vertical text alignment there! It's just a lot closer to the bottom edge than it is to the top edge. Gah, if I look into it, it's because of the whole
inline-block thing, ugh! Am I supposed to find a fix for a problem caused by layout techniques I haven't used in almost a decade at almost 12am?
Isn't the font here a bit small and poorly contrasting?
DevTools indicates a contrast of under 3 initially. If I bump up the
font-size from
70% to
85% and decrease the lightness from
28% to
15%, it looks a lot better.
(side note, I really like Verdana as a font, it's one of the most readable ones)
There's a missing space between the username and the timestamp in the create new post view. Why, oh, why use floated divs instead of spans that... you know, will just flow inline?
I find the semitransparent
.png for the gradient effect instead of a simple CSS gradient a bit cringe, but oh, well...
