Aerosmith, 'Permanent Vacation' (1987) Done With Mirrors signaled Aerosmith's reunion, but Permanent Vacation marked their commercial comeback. Newly sober, they teamed up with super-producer Bruce Fairbairn and song doctors Desmond Child and Jim Vallance to craft a collection of slick, radio-ready pop-metal anthems. Top 20 singles "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," "Angel" and "Rag Doll" blended Aerosmith's signature bad-boy boogie with the glossy pop-rock that ruled the airwaves at the time, propelling Permanent Vacation to 5 million sales in the U.S. Lest anybody worry they'd gone totally soft, though, album tracks like "Heart's Done Time," "St. John" and promo single "Hangman Jury" find Aerosmith reveling in their blues-rock sleaze of yesteryear.

While it was the beginning of the end of the Aerosmith many of us knew and loved as recording artists, I still love this album. The last really good Aerosmith album in my eyes.
