I haven't listened to this yet...I was led to it by the Aerosmith mention. It sounds like an interesting piece though. The Transphobic Rant That Got Two Radio Hosts FiredFri 23rd May, 2014 in Local News Well, you might not actually want to listen to this, but it’s a very good example of the level of transphobic ignorance and nastiness that just isn’t acceptable now in these enlightened times. Rochester NYC rock radio duo Kimberly & Beck (pictured) thought a little comedy piece about their city’s plans to improve the lives of transgender people would be great entertainment for their show – they even had the Aerosmith song ‘Dude Looks Like a Lady’ on standby to play in the background. So many people found the ensuing segment so vile that the radio station was inundated with complaints. You can hear the segment here… but you have been warned. The management of 98.9 The Buzz took decisive action as word spread about the disastrous broadcast: A statement from the station’s parent company Entercom later confirmed that both hosts were let go. “This morning Entercom fired Kimberly and Beck effective immediately,” it stated. “Their hateful comments against the transgender community do not represent our station or our company. We deeply apologize to the transgender community, the community of Rochester, and anyone else who was offended by their comments. We are proud of our past work on behalf of the local LGBT community and we remain committed to that partnership.” www.samesame.com.au/news/10949/The-transphobic-rant-that-got-two-radio-hosts-fired

Well, I started to listen, but didn't get but three or four minutes into it. It is one thing to question policy changes, its entirely another to be rude and hateful. Yet, our society in the US has "glorified" and reinforced this type of insensitive careless verbal diarrhea in various media venues for a long time. This is sad, but not surprising. I wonder if the hosts would have been fired if the station hadn't received complaints.
As a Christian, I may not agree with someones lifestyle, but I recognize them as God's creation and in need of the same love and compassion as myself.

"So many people found the ensuing segment so vile that the radio station was inundated with complaints"
"Their hateful comments against the transgender community do not represent our station or our company"
I did not hear one vile comment or anything hateful. What I heard was two people giving their opinions on whether tax payers should pay for gender reassignment surgery. Massachusetts has a convicted killer in prison named Michelle Kosilek.
From WikiPedia: Michelle Lynne Kosilek (born April 10, 1949) is a convicted murderer and transgender woman who is best known for the controversy surrounding her attempts to obtain treatment for her gender identity disorder while in prison. In 1990, Kosilek strangled wife Cheryl McCaul, killing her. Kosilek was sentenced to serve a life sentence without parole. During her incarceration, Kosilek has repeatedly sued the Massachusetts Department of Correction (MDOC), seeking medical treatment for her gender identity disorder.
So I guess the state of Massachusetts, the most liberal state in the country, is hateful and ignorant for not wanting to waste tax payers money on this non sense.
We are slowly becoming a nation of thought police, where if you exercise an opinion that is different than the politically correct community, you will be ostracized.
They did not deserved to be fired. These comments were gentile and mild compared to what is said daily on talk radio.

After listening to the segment, I also don't think they deserved to be fired.
I guess the most controversial part was about the transgendered student who played on the girls softball team. On that part, I think they are guilty of ignorance (and insensitivity), but that's not a fire worthy offense or half my workplace would be out of work.
To go more in depth, they were saying the girl should not be allowed to play because she was born a boy and therefore was stronger and I think they mentioned more naturally aggressive. When someone undergoes gender reassignment surgery, they don't just glue on the appropriate genital and send them on their way, they also undergo hormone replacement therapy which (in this case) gives the girl the proper balance of estrogen to testosterone normally found in a female.

I haven't listened to this yet. But what Coop said about that athlete ^, a similar thing happened at the last Olympics and a 'female' athlete was stripped of her medal. She was actually a hermaphrodite (born with both male and female reproductive organs)and raised a female and given hormonal drugs to make her into a female at puberty because that was what her body was indicating was the preferential way to go.

I listened to about half of it....what I thought was a bit off was how they were talking about gender re-assignment was covered but a woman with breast cancer and had mastectomy wasn't covered for a breast re-construction
