For me, the main criteria is that openers should be fast, and closers should not be predictable. Openers should be fast to get the audience hyped up for what's to come. Closers should not be predictable since otherwise we will know which songs to expect later and also know when the show is almost over.
Sweet E is too predictable to be a good closer, and not fast enough (at least at the beginning) to be a good opener.

I think Sweet Emotion would fit anywhere in the set. I could even see it as an opener.. The encores are definately way too predictable.. I think it would be awesome if the opening encore song was a rotating slot of gems... This!

Aside from WTW, Train and SE, which have all been done to death. I can see Toys, Mama Kin maybe? Something that's fast and goes out on a high note. It almost has to be something everyone recognizes.

Good openers: Saddle, Rats, Lick & Promise, Let the Music Do the Talking, Bone to Bone, The Hop, Make It, Toys, DTL
Good closers: Most good openers would also make good closers (except Make It)
In general, anything fast and not too predictable.

Totally agree but I'd rather hear SE as an opener instead of a closer but as I said, mid way through it's its best place.
