I generally like REM, but this is just a trainwreck...and not the good Aerosmith type of trainwreck.

I love REM, and its cool they even bothered to do it.

A little forgiveness because it is live - but not my cup of tea.

REM has some great songs (Orange Crush, What's the Frequency Kenneth, Superman), but they simply are not a rock band, and Toys is clearly a rock song. I do have to give them props for trying, though.

Speaking of alternative rockers covering Aerosmith...I always thought the The Breeders cover of "Lord of the Thighs" was an interesting take on the song. Not the greatest but not completely horrible either. And again, it's cool to see a cover of that song attempted.

I have heard it (believe it was a b-side on my "Cannonball" cassette single from way back) but have absolutely zero memory of what it sounded like. Probably very weird, I'd guess....

I actually liked the REM studio version of Toys. it was a different take on it rather than just trying to copy Aerosmith.
