I follow Queensryche a little bit, and the amount of drama that they've had with their (ex!)lead singer over the past two years far, far, far, far , far, far surpasses anything that's gone on with Steven Tyler, even including "Brand Tyler", drug relapses, and American Idol. Whenever I read the Queensryche message boards, I feel like I'm driving past the scene of a bloody car accident. There are a lot of bands who are way more dysfunctional than Aerosmith. As much as we complain, at least Steven Tyler has never forced Aerosmith to do a "cabaret" tour.
That entire Russ Irwin debacle yesterday afternoon reminded me how important it is for famous rock stars to be judicious about their use of social media, and I'm glad that the guys in Aerosmith have tried to avoid taking their personal drama to twitter and facebook. The guys in Queensryche sure don't hold back at all! It's been fascinating to look at Facebook screenshots of band members' wives and children tearing each other down on Facebook and Geoff Tate having an epic social-media meltdown, but I'm really glad the guys in Aerosmith limit their social-media tantrums.
I also remember, a few years ago, when the guys in Great White went at it and Jack Russel wrote a giant crybaby tirade about his bandmates, and then his bandmates retorted with a lengthy tirade about Jack's embarrassing medical issues ("he wears a colostomy bag!")
Also, didn't Michael Schenker publish an embarrassing and psychotic 10-page tirade to his ex-wife on his website?
I'm glad the guys in Aerosmith make an effort to stay classy. Social media makes it easy for our favorite rockstars to make complete idiots of themselves, and I'm glad that the Aerosmith guys aren't bigtime social media abusers.
