^ Yep, he mentions that in his book as well, that they had to be on their A-game with AC/DC around. He doesn't say anything about being destroyed by them though.

I like this discussion because for the most part it deals with their live performance (then vs now) as opposed the the usual discussion on old vs new material.

Believe it or not, I actually wish they were a bit sloppier these days. Only for the reason I feel like everything is so robotic now. Dont get me wrong. I dont want anyone passing out on stage or forgetting ALL the lyrics. But I always kinda liked it when they strayed off course a bit.

To my ears, they sound so much better today. I do hold a special place for the 1977 video, as that is the first year I saw them, and they opened with Saddle. I do like how this song has evolved over the years to now closely approximate the original recording. It sounds huge.

Then v's Now, I honestly don't know!
I saw them for the first time in 1976 and last time was last year (2013). I was actually blown away both times.

I never saw them until 93 so it is hard for me to say.. I think I am leaning towards their older stuff. I love the version of Seasons for the Texas Jam 78 bootleg for instance.. It just has that feeling to it. The version on Rockin the Joint, not so much... I could probbaly say that for any of those Texas Jams songs...
They early 73/74 bootlegs I have heard, not so much.. They were sloppy as hell. I just don't think they were that good of a live band yet.

But I can not get enough of Fever from the video that was posted here a week ago and have been watching the rest of Rockin the Joint also and I like it a lot.

Just love 'em.

Stevens voice seemed shot, at Texas jam. My favorite footage of 70's material was 77 live in Houston.

Was talking to someone at the book signing who told me he saw a show with AC/DC opening for Aerosmith. AC/DC were booed of the stage and the crowd went nuts for Aerosmith.

My first show was in '98 so I cannot attest to their live performance first hand in the 70s and 80s. However, I have watched videos and they seem pretty awesome to me. Thank you YouTube.
I like the sound of live pre comeback Aerosmith better. In general, it sounds more organic, sloppy or not. I tend to say this about Dream On:
Pre-Comeback Dream On is a rocker live Post-Comeback Dream On has become a ballad for the most part.
But I love the sound of post comeback Aerosmith also. I keep going back to their shows because they sound good. All the videos I have seen of the DWM, PV, and PUMP tours are fucking awesome.
