I finished the book a couple of weeks ago. There wasn't much I hadn't already heard before except maybe some of Joe's personal life. I found it a good read, even though I am Steven fan, I thought both Joey's and Joe's books were much better. I did think Joe had a few goes at Steven but that said, I also thought they were deserved and if Steven doesn't like it then tough titties. I also agree that Steven has read the book or had one of his people read it and summarise any details that Steven may feel he needs to whack Joe with his mic stand next tour for, LOL. I'm more of a band fan than of any particular member, but I've seen some "Steven fans" take great offense. and others, like yourself who are more objective. Still, hope we don't see anymore mic whacking. Ouch I really didn't learn a whole lot more than I already knew but Joe's story did add a lot of depth. I also enjoyed reading more about the early days, Judy Carne, Frank Connelly, etc. I don't think Joe was that hard on Steven and I'm sure everything he said was factual even though it is from his perspective, so if anything, Steven might be more upset about things getting out there, but IMO they kind of already were. Joe also said a lot of very kind things about Steven too.

I did not think a lot of "Steven bashing" went on in the book. Some of things he wrote in the book gave me an even greater appreciation for Steven. Yes, the whole Tyler doing Idol and not telling the band and Tyler auditioning for Led Zep and not telling the band was ridiculous, but this was nothing new. The worst in the book was the fact that Tyler sort of manipulated Joe back into using in 2006, but Joe should have resisted. I guess, just addicts being addicts. Steven writing and not telling Joe was just him being an asshole. Probably the absolute worst thing ST did was lie to Joe and try to fly him on a private jet to get fully sober back in 2010 and then ST sent the private jet bills to Joe's house. It was Tyler's idea in the first place to take the jet. Joe got the impression that Steven was just trying to help so that must have been a huge letdown.

Of course not it's all about Mr. Brad Whitford.

I guess I should clarify...first and foremost I am an Aerosmith fan, but Steven is my fave male singer of all time. Steven's personal life and the things he does, I don't give a crap, most of the time I think he's a bit of a putz, BUT when he opens his mouth singing...WOW!

No doubt about it.. definitely extremely talented. LOL.. and by far the best singer in the band. I like him too but do agree he can be quite a putz at time. But when I did the M&G this year, he was very nice. Loved Joe too and was nice to meet him twice within a 5 week period because of the book signing.

I disagree. That he had to be pushed so much to write lyrics isn't very flattering and honestly not something I want to know. I still think they have more meaning than a lot of people here (not just thrown together words), but they did mean a lot to me as a kid and I want to believe he put through into them. This really was the only thing in the book I thought hit hard but it is a huge thing. ST book was full of shit like this and why I put it down and finally threw it away. Really? The lyric thing really wasn't news to me. It seems like I've seen it discussed, maybe in an article, a video clip, or maybe it was in Walk this Way (the book). Joe's book went into more detail on this than I'd heard before but it actually confirmed some things, primarily that this, more than the music itself, was the reason for bringing in outsiders. And I've even heard Steven talking about the lyric issue. I remember him talking about writing "Dude" and collaborating with Desmond Child on the lyrics and how that made it much easier for him. It wasn't complete news to me because my eyes rolled a bit when he was on 60 minutes talking about always having a note pad with him to write lyrics. I like the lyrics that exist for the most part, I just know if he spent the time he could do it on his own and that would be so much better if they came from his mind. I agree (although I don't know) that the rest have no issue coming up with music. But I guess he actually is the hardest working rock star out there. He is forever taking time (and maybe actively looking for fans) for fans to meet and sign for and therefore more of us get meet him. Before anyone says he is a fame whore.........they all are no matter how pretentious they act.......I am just happy he loves his job. Everyone benefits.

Tom my favorite bassist and Joe and Brad are a tie for guitarist. Larry Mullen Jr my favorite drummer.

I don't think Joe was saying he wasn't a hard worker. I think the main issue with the lyrics taking so long has to do with Steven's need for perfection in the writing, while Joe appears to value spontaneity and goes more by feel. But of course, I think that's what makes their music so dynamic.
