Sheriff Israel has Aerosmith's Tyler on his posseBy Brittany Wallman, Sun Sentinel contact the reporter Rockin' for the sheriffBroward Sheriff Israel's re-election has Aerosmith rocker's help Though the race is two years out, the re-election campaign for Broward Sheriff Scott Israel is ramping up. And it's enough to make Aerosmith's Steven Tyler scream. The famous big-mouthed rocker is co-hosting a fundraiser for a pro-sheriff political committee next week. The sheriff's ties to Aerosmith aren't new. Former Aerosmith guitarist Richie Supa, now a Plantation resident, helped him win election, performed at his swearing-in, and connected him with mega-wealthy contributor Richard Pereira. Sheriff Israel said he'll attend the Tuesday night event at Lipton Toyota in Fort Lauderdale. Minimum contributions are $1,000. There is no maximum. The fundraiser, by Citizens for Effective Law Enforcement, will help swell the war chest to fuel Israel's 2016 re-election effort. Israel, a Democrat, was elected in 2012 when he ousted Republican Al Lamberti. There's talk that Lamberti will run again, perhaps as a Democrat. But to date, Lamberti's been mum on the question. Citizens for Effective Law Enforcement, established on Jan. 24, is a political advocacy committee organized under section 527 of the federal tax code. lRelated Ethics commission finds probable cause sheriff broke law www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/fl-aerosmith-sheriff-broward-20141107-story.html
