There are two big bands that I've seen in a small club in NH - Club Casino in Hampton, right across the street from the ocean. One was Scorpions, which was amazing. They didn't even have a back entrance to the stage, they just walked out a little side door, smiled and said hi to everyone, walked up a few steps to the stage and started rocking. I remember tons of bikers there, and it was quite the sight to see them, all beards and leather, holding up lighters during Still Loving you. The other was Collective Soul. What a great show that was, tons of rabid fans squeezed shoulder to shoulder in the little club, with the band only yards away from the worst vantage point. I also saw Motley Crue at a small movie theater type venue in Boston, The Opheum maybe? That was pretty intense as well. Lots of boobies with Tommy Lee egging the girls on with a hand held camera which showed the action on a big screen behind him. Not that the screen was really needed in such a small place, but still added to the merriment. Hopefully someday I'll catch Aerosmith in a small club, nothing but the rockers for the old school fans....I'll keep dreamin' for that one.

Saw Peter Frampton in a small club in San Francisco when I was in college. He put on a great show.
Saw Nazareth in a club called Keystone Palo Alto. Another great show.
Saw Night Ranger at local hotel. Can't remember what album they were touring behind. I think it was the original band except for Fitz. Of course, Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson were always great to see together.

Tesla at Club Casino in Hampton Beach. B.B.King at Club Casino, Joe Bonamassa at Club Casino and at Showcase Live in Foxboro. All these shows were fantastic.
One of the best shows ever was the Joe Perry Project a few years back, 9/26/2009 in Foxboro. Only a couple hundred people, up close, less than 5 feet away from the band. It was really cool. $20 for a priceless experience. The audio here does not do this show justice.

I saw Rammstein in full blazing glory at the Enmore theater. A very small converted movie theater in Sydney. Front row of the balcony and nearly singed my eyebrows. And Blue Oyster Cult at a pool hall. Just a small room with 2 pool tables and very little standing room. Alice Cooper at the small club in the Viejas Casino. Not a concert hall by any means. Just about 200 people packed the place. Billy Idol at the Whisky. Van Halen about 25 times all summer long at that dirtbag bar in the Valley. And Jimmy Buffet at the Key West High School auditorium!

It was when Generation Swine first came out and they played the whole album.

Roseland Ballroom August 3, 1984 Early-days underground metal stomped its way into Roseland with a bill boasting one legendary act in the form of Raven; complimented by 2 of its brightest up-and-comers. In the end, the soon-to-be biggest metal band of all time demolished the packed-to-the-gills Ballroom with its brand of sweaty thrash intensity, and Elektra Records signed the band as a direct result of the show. Game-changing night for sure.

I saw Alice Cooper at the old Lynn, MA city hall back in October. That venue is probably even smaller than Hampton Beach. I think there were only two stalls in the whole place to take a leak, so the long lines made it a dry show for me, but still a great time. He squeezed all his props onto the small stage and did a full set. Great energy, sound and crowd. Easily one of the best shows I've seen.

I saw Velvet Revolver at the Riviera Theater in Chicago before they came out with their debut album. Awesome show! Silvertide opened.
I saw Megadeth at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. That was also pretty cool. It was GA, so I got to get pretty close to the stage...just had to avoid the mosh pit people. As much of an ass as Dave Mustaine is, he is a pretty amazing guitarist.
Saw Dream Theater at the Rosemont Theater. They were ok. I don't really know them that well. Seemed to put on a good show though.
Saw Alice Cooper at the Star Plaza Theater in Merrillville, IN. That was beyond awesome. He puts on a hell of a show. His musicianship and showmanship is amazing. I put him right up there with Steven as far as showmanship, athleticism, and versatility despite being in their mid 60s.
Ive also seen a lot of big bands at local festivals. Firehouse at DeKalb, IL's Cornfest. Ted Nugent, ZZ Top, and Slash at Naperville, IL's Ribfest. Pat Benatar, Goo Goo Dolls, and Collective Soul at Naperville, IL's Last Fling.

Not actual bands but famous singers, both in nightclubs of 400 capacity or less after shows they had done in in Sydney Australia.
David Bowie and his entourage come into a club that was only about half full and just kind of shoved a few tables together and proceeded to let their hair down. It was during the tour where 'China Girl' was his latest hit song. After about an hour he jumped up on stage with a mix of the house band and some of his entourage taking over some instruments and did a mini set of covers, I think the only song of his he did was 'Sorrow'.
I can't remember if it was a few months or years before or after that, but it was Mick Jagger who came in with his entourage but a bit different, his people were rude and demanded that people got moved and a VIP area type thing set up. But he did get up with the house band and belt out a couple of songs.
