I work for an auto repair company.... we have 12 shops in the SE Michigan area...
I started there 22 years ago, fresh out of a trade college which got me a state license. I went from auto tech to asst mgr, to managing my own shop... then the company that owned us sold out to the company I now work for.... my shop was one that was closed in the process.... from there I went back to tech,,, asst mgr again... and all I heard was that I was good,,, but way too slow.... For some reason, nobody could fire me or get rid of me..... now I work at the main office.. been there for a several years now...
I got the best compliment about 5 years ago when the owner of the company asked me what the hell I was doing working for him.
Odd, you think?
He said I was way too smart to be working for his company.... I told him, I never got to go to college, so I had to do what I can... I don't make much money, but I have job security. and I feel good that, even tho I never got successful,,,, somebody who is, knows I could have been..

Currently, full time carer for my parents, in past lives, I have 3.
I grew up in a family owned country resort hotel, I started school at 4 because my parents knew the principal and most of the teachers and I could actually read at that age and Uncle Glynn (the principal and no relation) told my parents I would be better off at school than in a hotel all day. I did excellerated learning and was in year 12 just after I turned 14, also just after I turned 14 my Father got diagnosed with terminal cancer, they told him 12 to 14 weeks (he just turned 83 so thankfully they didn't get that right). I managed to finish year 12 before I turned 15 and from 14 to 16 pretty much ran the hotel with the head barman, I couldn't sign off on the alcohol orders or deliveries, but I signed the cheques. Just after I turned 16 Dad got a lot better and my parents were home a lot more and I went to university...
From 16 to 19 I did my bachelor of business majoring in hotel and resort management and got married and had my first child....When I was 19 Dad tried to hand over the business to my husband and I (I'm an only child), my husband thought it would be a hoot until he thought about it, 7 days a week and at least 15 hours a day....Some friends of my parents owned a catering company which I used for big functions while my parents were away when Dad was really sick and I had learned to waitress etc and they asked if I could help wait tables for a big wig corporate function at the nearest cities entertainment centre, the head of technical services thought I was the bosses daughter and asked what we were doing with the left over food and if it was getting thrown out if the technicians could have some?
Moving on, I kind of bargained food for a back stage tour to have a look, by then it was after 1am and I was told come back in the day time and who to ask for, I actually did about 3 weeks later and long story short not long after that I started my bachelor of theatre majoring in sound. I stuck with that for over 12 years and also did my pyro licence, got my limo licence and had full security clearance. I also got to work in a recording studio. I got extremely disillusioned with the whole entertainment industry over a period of time but one show made me hand in my resignation instantly.... I was actually meant to transfer further north when my husband got promoted, but I got a job as an assistant manager of a Pizza Hut instead( last show I actually worked was Silver Chair, a 3 day build {for 2 shows} while working at Pizza Hut and I gave my son my all access pass and did his phone shift at Pizza Hut so he could go to the show)!
Career 3, I became a chef, normally a 4 year apprenticeship but you can RPL so I did it in 8 months (RPL = recognised prior learning) My Mum was a chef and I already had the ordering skills and could cook. I also did that for 12 years....
Now as terrible as it sounds, I am waiting for the rest of my life, my parents don't want to go into a home and I don't blame them, so as long as I can I will look after them!

I am a Care Manager (formally known as a Case Manager) for people with an Axis 1 mental illness diagnosis and they can also have a co-occurring disorder, substance abuse.. Though since the advent of Obamacare, we now can also have people with just medical diagnosis. I have worked in the mental health field for 30 years, beginning with children in residential care with psych diagnosis and learning disabilities. Also did residential programs for adults, when I left the agency I worked for I was a Program Director, overseeing over 150 clients all over Westchester County in NY with 11 staff.

In high school, I got a 4 year scholarship to any college/university I wanted. Went to DePaul for a while, but knew I wanted to do hair, so I quit and put myself through school. Got my license to do hair in 1985,and have worked in salons, had my own bridal business, then taught myself makeup artistry---was an executive for Estee Lauder, makeup artist for Revlon, Shiseido and Lancome and have worked on over 20 Indie films, music videos, commercials and photo shoots. Six years ago, I graduated from school again, this time with a license in Massage Therapy. I work at a really busy spa, and it's the only spa to be rated Five Stars by Forbes.
