Appetite for sure.
The most COMMERCIALLY successful debut album ever was probably Boston's.

The undisputed king of debut records (in my world) is Appetite For Destruction. Unfortunately, it was a steady downhill slide from there, with each additional album worse than the one before.
Next comes Van Halen, and they managed to keep the quality fairly steady afterwards
And finally, The Cars. Not as loud as the other two, but quality songwriting on every song. After this and Candy-O they were hit and miss, but always leaning towards the better side for me.

I really like Aerosmith's debut album a lot, then there is appetite for destruction which is awesome, Led Zeppelin I was great, Van Halen's debut was great too, Down's first album called NOLA is one of my favorites. There are many very good debut albums, it's really tough for me to call just one my all time favorite, but those are probably my personal top 5.

My pick is a tie between Carrie Underwood Some Hearts, Avril Lavigne Let Go and Taylor Swift's self titled debut. Of course Aerosmith's self titled would be up there too.
Here is a list of the top selling debut albums and sales numbers...
The following are the biggest selling debut albums in United States history. The sales totals come from the RIAA list of the best selling albums which list all the albums that have been certified to have sold/shipped at least 5 million copies. I also liked Wolfmother's and Weezer's debut albums a lot. But yeah Appetite is basically as good as a debut album can get.
