I've been thinking about trust.
Amon Amarth had a handful of one-off shows scheduled for this summer in Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Had because they cancelled all 2021 shows yesterday. I had my eyes on the Linz show since it was announced and I... hoped? would have liked? for it to happen. Just a one-off show, not a tour. In Austria, where more than half the population got at least one vaccine dose and the death rate has been approaching zero lately... and actually was zero on the day the cancellation was announced. Even though festivals/ concerts are said to go ahead as planned there in July.
They probably still didn't trust things would be okay.
And to be fair, neither did I. I hoped for it, I wanted it, I needed it... but I didn't put my trust in it.
Die Toten Hosen have just announced a 40th anniversary tour in the summer of 2022. Tickets go on sale tomorrow and I'm not going to buy one, even though I know they're one band that sells out shows pretty fast. It's all stadium shows and open airs. 65K+ events. I just can't go for that at this point.
I've kept my Aerosmith ticket, though if you were to ask me whether I trust the tour would happen...
I'm mixed about that. About my own lack of trust.

Kreator have been confirmed to headline Dynamo in Eindhoven in late August!

I bought tickets to see The Darkness today. Last band I saw live in 2019 was The Darkness. I also have tickets to see The Black Spiders in July (next month!!!) but not 100% sure if that will go ahead or not…

They broke up for a bit, didn't they? Yeah, I think one of the band moved to America or something. They now have one of the Planet Rock presenters on drums which is sweet PR move to ensure airplay 😂 Check out “Balls” with the line “I was hoping for a night in the ruts, when she hit me right in the nuts”

I saw a TV cable installer on Main Street the other day. He asked me what time it was, so I told him "It's somewhere between 8 am and 1 pm"

I think my head is spinning. May 2021. I got vaccinated. I had my eyes on the Amon Amarth show in Linz in early July. At that point, I thought it was a tight race against time, but the vaccination progress in Austria looked good, so the show seemed possible. On the 8th of June, Amon Amarth cancelled all 2021 shows. I'm still sorry about that. Festivals got cancelled one after another, but those shows in Austria and Switzerland could have happened. Two days later, Kreator were announced to headline Dynamo. The situation in the Netherlands wasn't so rosy, but still... promising. And one month and a half extra to get better. I bought a ticket. I was still apprehensive and and didn't book transportation. I did book a hotel with free cancellation because there aren't many accommodation options in Eindhoven and it's not a cheap city and staying under 200€ for 3 nights could have proven to be impossible later. After the first week of July, the number of cases in the Netherlands went from around 500 to over 10K per day in just a few days. Multi-day festivals were banned. Events only allowed outdoors and seated. Until the 14th of August, a week before Dynamo is scheduled to start. With a decision on whether to extend restrictions to be taken on the 13th of August. When I should be leaving to go to Vienna for the book event. In all honesty, I don't expect the festival to happen, but the fact that I cannot know for sure with more than a week in advance is maddening. Eindhoven is not close and I don't know of any transportation options with free cancellation. Do I risk booking something and losing the money? Do I wait and risk costs going beyond what I can afford? In which case I can't go and lose the money for the festival ticket. This Friday, Kreator have announced a one-off show in Innsbruck. On the 18th of August. Given the number of cases had started going up again in Austria too (even if less dramatically), I hadn't booked flights to Vienna either. But Vienna is another situation. It's closer to me. Should still be reachable one way or another. So I went for extending my trip to Austria and bought a ticket for that too. I'm not in my right mind, I know. I keep getting that image of a mouse surrounded by traps with cheese in my head. The mark of the survivor is knowing when not to (take decisions). Buying a ticket for this is a decision I shouldn't have taken already. Just like I avoided booking transportation and only booked free cancellation hotels. Innsbruck looks ridiculously pretty, but I'd better not get attached to plans that may get crushed...

I feel for you. It must be very frustrating.
I refuse to buy tickets to anything at this point. The risk of cancellation is simply still too great, and holding tickets just seems like a recipe for stress and unease.
