♫ ♪ "Ooh, the nightingale's singin her song in the rain..." ♪ ♪
Steven's love song to Mia, written at a time when the band was falling apart. One can only assume the intense mixed emotions he was going through at the time contributed to the unique combination of expressed sorrow and happiness in this song. The girl has just been born and he is already lamenting about the day she'll be taken from him.
"Come too soon that sunny day, you give your heart away..."
Just a side note - for many years I never noticed the barely audible whispered "Miaaaaaaa...." before the "Ooh ooh"s

Minor chord madness!! Such a beautifully haunting song has always been one of my favorites and definitely very high on my list of songs from RIAHP. Just as good as any, and better than some (sorry Coop that means your YSMC), album ending ballad from the glory days.

I like this ballad a lot, and think it is better than most 2nd gen ballads, but I also would rank it at the bottom of the early ballads. Which again, still makes it a shining star of a song.

It's hard for me to rate the old school ballads, 1985 and before for me, since apart from Home Tonight (my favorite) they all are neck in neck hence my heckling of The Coop YSMC is probably right behind Mia by a measurement so small scientist don't have a word or whatever for it. And for whatever reason I, me personally, don't consider Seasons a ballad. So to insure I'm not the one responsible for taking this thread off track Mia is one fantastic ballad I wish Steven would or could if he still can write a good piano inspired ballad like Mia.

Great heartfelt ballad! I love it, but...maybe not as much as Home Tonight or YSMC

Used to really like it. A lot. I seem to have grown away from it.

I love the song. Great 70's Tyler lyrics.

This is my favorite of all their album closers. Although I don't think it was their intent, it's got kind of a dark, haunting vibe to it.

The bell tolling at the end was always a little sad for me. Knowing now what was going on in the band. Plus was always sad that Joe didn't play on it. Did Brad?

Haunting awesome tone. Great recording. Steven is on fire. Laid back intense feel. I know, they seem like opposites. That's why Steven Tyler is Steven Tyler.

Although not my favorite of the early ballads, I am partial to this because my own daughter's name is Mia. Also, regardless of how much you like this song or not, you absolutely have to appreciate the fact that, like pretty much every 70s ballad, this one comes straight from the heart. The soulless, cash-grab ballad well that the band has gone to and pretty much dried up in the last 20 years didn't exist back then. Seasons, Dream On, Home Tonight, YSMC, Mia - they are all substantive and heartfelt.
I never caught the whispered "Mia" either - listened in my car and couldn't hear it - will have to try with headphones later!
