I remember snatching this up when it came out - I wasn’t as excited knowing it was all covers, but it was better than nothing. For some reason, these songs wore pretty thin on me over the years and I can’t say I’ve listened to this one for a few years now. I used to really like You Gotta Move, I’m Ready and Temperature but I don’t get the same enjoyment out of those songs today....

That's pretty much how I felt, a blues cover album seemed kind of lazy to me. Baby Please Don't Go smokes, and it was nice to have something new, but for the most part the album seems stuck in a low gear. A few of the tracks grew on me a bit, but the album ran it's course after about a month and I haven't really gone back to it since.

Apart from The Grind this album kicked and still kicks ass today. Some people apparently need to have the wax cleared from your ears. In the excellent words of Brad on going in to do Bobo. "Now some music I can sink my teeth into!"

Quite honestly, aside from 1-2 standout tracks on each, I no longer really enjoy any of the studio albums after Nine Lives. Bobo is undoubtedly the strongest of the 3, but just not my thing anymore I guess.

Bobo in the only post comeback album I can't do without with Pump a close second. All the other ones I'm at least bored or dissatisfied with to a large enough extent and it's not longer worth sifting thru them to find the handful of tracks worth hearing.

They had to do this record.
After all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over Just Push Play, they needed something rootsy to recover the disenfranchised old school fans. I'm not sure it really achieved that, but it was a decent covers album, and the tour smoked.
Could they not have come up with something better than Honkin' On Bobo though? Terrible name. Infantile.

Guys, I gotta move say I am somewhere between this and this when I read your posts HoB is great INCLUDING "The Grind" ( bartman2001 come on, man! ). Granted - it's different than the first post-comeback albums (not to mention the old school stuff), but that was the whole point, wasn't it? I think they really enjoyed recording it and I wish I had been to a HoB-era show I still get a kick out of it... Actually - I am going to listen to it right now!

I always thought The Grind was out of place on that record. It's not hard to imagine Tyler forcefully demanding one of 'his type' of numbers make the cut. Bad call. I'd have preferred another cover, just to keep the album flow consistent. Joe could've sang Diddley's I'm A Man or something..

The Grind was the only song I didn't like on there.. The album could have been better but I still thought it was their best effort since PV. There were some really good songs on there and the tours around that time were great. I thought "Baby Please Don't Go" stood up with the best of their classics during the live shows. I enjoyed the live DVD from that tour as well. The bonus feature that documented the recording of BoBo was phenomenal. I recommend that to anyone who hasn't seen it. It may even given you a better appreciation of BoBo..

I have that DVD and enjoyed it, and I did see a show from the Bobo tour and thought they were in fine form (that was actually the last time I saw them live). I’m not saying that I think the album is bad, I’m just saying that it hasn’t aged well for me. Along with JPP, MFAD and RIHP (which I know is a controversial statement around here), it’s one of the albums I just don’t really listen to anymore. I listen to all of their other stuff still and still like it....just my opinion!

I remember being very ambivalent about this release. It felt like Aerosmith had nothing left to give so was jumping on the "blues album" bandwagon as a way of staying relevant. Turns out I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. It was really a rock record inspired from the blues more than a blues record. Just like their early stuff. For a cover record, this was not bad.
