Well, survived my first Florida hurricane. Didn’t even lose power. Those south of me weren’t so lucky. Lot’s of damage and destruction in and around the Naples area. Some people in my neighborhood had a few trees damaged and some fencing ripped apart, but I got lucky. The main thing is not losing power. Although now it’s cold down here…by our standards…it’s only in the 60s which is good for those who lost power. It’s been over 100 years since Tampa Bay has been directly hit by a hurricane, and we still haven’t. I am glad too because this one was no joke.

Glad you were spared. Unfortunately I think the body count will be very high. Even though Sandy put 18" of water in my garage and 6" in my den on slab, the water only came up to the subfloor of my main structure so I felt spared myself. Although many I know got a free house lift with a grant for reconstruction and I still have my crappy old house, I still felt lucky to not have had my life torn apart...my kid was 9 at the time. Prayers to all those feeling the effects of this monster storm...

As of Tuesday, at least 109 people have been reported killed by the hurricane in the United States, with 105 of those deaths in Florida and 55 of them in Lee County.

It's one thing as an adult if you want to not evacuate and take your chances. Many of my neighbors did that w Sandy and were crapping themselves because once the water started rising they didn't know how high it would get (although I really don't think my 84 year old widowed neighbor really gave a crap). If you are responsible for people like children that must rely on your decisions for life or death there is only one course of action and that is to get the fuck out while you can.
