So, I have been wanting to create this thread for a while now but have never gotten around to it. Like all of you, I am a huge music lover. I always had a record player growing up and some records, but Cassettes were the big thing when I really started getting into and purchasing music on my own. Then at some point it moved onto CDs. As CDs became defunct, I stood to my ground and would continue to buy them to rip up to iTunes and later my Amazon cloud so I could listen to them on my different streaming devices. Once Amazon discontinued the ability to upload a few years ago, I eventually stopped buying CDs myself and this left a huge void in my soul. That void was eventually filled by Vinyl and I freaking love it! I love it for SO many reasons that I hope to share if this thread takes off at all. I had an old record player in my loft and would throw a record on once in awhile while playing darts and stuff. Eventually I started buying more records here and there. Then a new record player and now there has been no turning back! I figured it would be cool to have a thread to talk about all things Vinyl. Do you prefer old records? New Records? 45s? How do you care for them? What is your setup? What is it you love about Vinyl? The Hunt? The Liner notes? What is your prize record? Your most desired? What was the last thing you listened to? The discussion really could be endless, and I hope it is! Here is a pic of my main collection. The depth of the crates goes back farther than it looks. The dividers block the view and are a bit deceiving. drive.google.com/file/d/1yQEc9MKGlCWRoQ5BuB_rACzl7_tfEhTi/view?usp=share_linkThis is the last record I spun a few nights ago. A 1966 pressing of teh STones Aftermath and the record is in amazing condition. Sounds so damn good. drive.google.com/file/d/1Q9eCH6AyMQ5f-dRePxD3dPvtod5Vszzu/view?usp=share_linkThe last record I purchased was last night after ap mentioned there was a version of Live Bootleg with the GYW logo stamped on it. Now I will own two copies hah. Not the only Aerosmith record I have "duplicates" of. I may be purchasing another copy of DWM as well after tedz mentioned Darkness wasn't on the original release. I need to see if Darkness is on mine or not. I might have issues and I am fine with that hah.

Nice collection! I like the way you have them displayed as in an actual record store.
I used to have a vinyl collection which I kept as you have the ones under the stands, in alphabetical order so I could find them. My collection probably would have just fit between the legs under one of those tables or maybe one and a half of those tables. Sadly during one of my moves I got sick of hauling them around and tossed the whole lot into a dumpster out back. I don't regret it, but I'm sure some others such as yourself would have loved to take them off my hands.

I still have all my vinyl. About 500 LPs. I made crates for them, but they are not displayed, rather sit alphabetically like Coop stated, with only the spines showing. Our turn table bit the dust years ago, but my wife got me a cheap turn table that i can digitize recordings and transfer to my computer then to iPod. That's pretty cool, but my kids have a family plan on Spotify, and I can find a lot of old stuff there and stream it. No, it is not the vinyl experience, but it sure is convenient. I did inherent an older turn table/speaker unit not long ago, but haven't given it a go. Need to get on that, as my best memories with music really come from my teens in my room with a record player and dropping the needle. Man, I can still remember Back in the Saddle hitting hard that first time.
Cool thread idea. Thanks

Thanks I still stream music mostly too which is definitely convenient and has its perks but the whole Vinyl experience just brings me back. Some people scoff at nostalgia, but I love it. To me that is one of the best parts about music. That nostalgic feeling you get when you hear a song that takes you so vividly back to sometime maybe 20, 30, 40 years ago. Almost like a time warp. Bust that record player out and maybe it will reignite something in you! One thing I love about it is that I generally just let a whole side play out. I mean we grew up like that for the most part with albums and tapes. You listen to the album in the sequence the artists and producers intended you to hear the tracks. It forces you to listen to songs that you may not normally have and maybe end up loving a song that you would have missed. With people's attention spans are short and the way we consume music these days I kind of feel the concept of a full record/album release the way we knew it is dying or dead. Not entirely but for the most part. It is just so easy for people to only seek out the one or two songs they like or know. Easily just skip over a song if it doesn't resonate with them immediately. I know people that will pass judgement on a new album after listening to the 30 second preview clips of each song online somewhere. That is just a sin!

I bet you had some awesome records too. That really is sad!!!

Great new thread! I love vinyl, but only utilize it at home on the headphones. I find the whole 'ritual' of vinyl very satisfying. Removing the record, cleaning, dropping the needle, the flip, the pops and hisses.. all of it. For me, it's the purest way to listen to music. I listen on a mid 70's Yamaha turntable and amp, inherited from my Grandmother. Same stereo I listened to records on as a child. Put a new belt in the turntable, and it spins like a dream. At this point, I reserve vinyl purchases for special and highly favoured titles. The pricing has gotten so ridiculous that I'll only spend on specific, and highly desirable, items. Usually buy CDs first, and if they become big favourites, I'll then go for the vinyl. I also very much enjoy 45's. Picture sleeves, rare b-sides and a steady need for the 'vinyl ritual'. 😀 so much fun! Basically, I'm happy to buy music in whatever form is necessary. Even cassette. The only downloading I do is Bandcamp, because the artists actually get paid. No streaming at all, because they rip the artist off. www.discogs.com/user/dwightfry3/collection

It came with its own monitors, but you couldn't adjust the levels and the bass was annoyingly high. I ended up just running it through my old AIWA box stereo and it sounds much better. I plan on moving within the next year and will probably get some new speakers then. I feel like you can find some deals online these days. Have you tried Merchbar? A few weeks ago, I picked up Black Sabbath's Paranoid and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath one for 16.99 and the other for 18.99. Of course, that was before tax and shipping, but it only came to $23 each after all that. Got another lot of Metallica, Stones, STP, Hendrix and Slayer. 6 total that also came to $23 after shipping and taxes. I still treasure the original pressings though when in good condition and will cough up the money for certain old records. I had a bunch of old 45's and really never cared for them until recently when I found an old 1970's GE 45 player where you can stack eight 45's on it. It plays one, drops it and plays the next. So cool!! It is the old school way of making a playlist!

I confess I am one of those that listens to short clips, but I generally do so and deem it a “fast pass” to get a feel for the album. then go back and listen to the whole thing. I starte this back in the 70s as I was impatient to hear all the songs, so just move through the first 30 -60 seconds of each song as my introduction before listening to the entire album. I still do this, even when streaming. Old habits.

ap I am sure you already have it but I just got an email from Merchbar offering Toys in hte Attic for 17.99 www.merchbar.com/rock-alternative/aerosmith/aerosmith-toys-in-the-attic-vinyl-record?bxid=6973716When I search the site without the link, I can't find that deal so the daily deals may just be for customers. I also think they may taylor some deals to your preferences and this is an example of it. They sent me a sweet deal for Licensed to Ill last week but it was sold out by the time I got to it and they will notify me when it is back in stock. I also got a 35% off coupon today that did state it was for customers only. They sent me one of those last week and I bought 6 records. Dangerous! lol I highly recommend people to register to their site. They have more than just Vinyl too.

Did you vinyl lovers pick up any of the numbered 180gm Record Store Day editions of Aerosmith through Rock In A Hard Place? They happened a few years back.
I have all but RIAHP, but have never done a comparison play against older pressings. Wondering if any of you have.

I got vinyls at home , too but I just never come to this section of the forum. Some of the sweetest deals was getting Dude wings-shaped vinyl (Monkey b-side) for 25 cents (2010) or JPP I've got the rock n rolls again for 1 euro (2010) (around 1 buck). I bought many when people would give them away nearly for free to make room at home. Years after I sold duplicates when they came back and my standard of live improved noticeably. 4 real

The only Aerosmith RSD day release I have is The Road Starts Hear. I went crazy and bought four copies since they were "selling out" everywhere. Got two at cost and paid more for the others on ebay. Then they went ahead and released a bunch more as regular releases and you can get them for $16 bucks. KInd of a dick move. On another note, I believe it was you that told me about the Live Bootleg that had the "GYW" logo stamped on it. I immediately found it on discogs but they send me the one with the regular logo, so I sent it back. I haven't gotten around to looking for another one yet.

Aerosmith bootlegs I found on Craigslist. The first one is Live in New York 1973.. He said the other one is from the PV tour. $100 for the pair which I wasn't really wanting to pay since I only wanted the 1973 one. I asked him how much for just that one and he said $100. That wasn't going to happen.
