It's a great concert and a very good recording. It's said that this concert was kind of like a rehearsal for the show 2 nights later at the Budokan. During the first shows, the guys were weirded out by the fact that the audience remained still during the songs and only cheered between songs. I'm a huge fan of the bootlegs from their first Japan tour. One thing that really bothers me with this recording is that the label compressed the audio to such an extent that it ruined the original feel, but despite that it's a cool recording and an important document. If you have the time, check out the Fukuoka show from this tour, it's great and apparently it's a matrix of a soundboard source and a recording from the ambience mics.

Interesting that Joe playing 'Peter Gunn' is named after the B-52's song which wasn't even wrote until a couple of years later. Similar riffs, but eh .... What a fantastic setlist. Seems odd that '.... Saddle' was rarely played early on the Rocks tour, and 'Last Child' pretty much disappeared from the setlists until 1984.

That Tarantura label seems to specialize in lesser circulated recordings. I picked up a '75 show from that label awhile back. One that I'd never seen physically available previously.
Interesting stuff.

I haven't heard a full version of Back in the saddle from the Rocks tour. The first full live recording of that song that I have is from the first night at the Summit 1977, but that's considered as the Aerosmith Express tour. The only recording I have of Back in the saddle from the Rocks tour is a short instrumental snippet of the song during Train kept a rollin' in Toronto in 1976. Unfortunately we only have about 30 minutes of that show available on YouTube. According to setlist.fm, Back in the saddle was played a few times in 1976, but as we don't have recordings to prove we can't be sure.

I'd imagine they hadn't had a chance to rehearse 'Saddle' and get it gig ready. Especially given how it was pieced together in the studio and they were constantly on the road, in them days. Come to think of it, not many Rocks songs appear to have been played early in the tour. 'Lick and a Promise' seems to have been the only one played in them first few shows.

Sick as a dog was also played during the first shows. They played it in Pontiac and in Miami during the first few shows. A few weeks later, Last child started being played. During this time, they removed Somebody, Walkin' the dog and Adam's apple from the set. Around June/July, they started playing Rats in the cellar and also added the short version of Get the lead out to Train kept a rollin'.

I only know what was on Video Scrapbook.

I only know what was on Video Scrapbook. Someone on setlist.fm has an audience recording, but their account has been deleted. The full concert is probably in the band's archive (can't see a reason why it wouldn't be). If that's the case, then they MUST release it. I also have the version from Video Scrapbook and it's clear that they were still functional. Since Pontiac is near Detroit, Aerosmith did another concert in Detroit in December 1976 and this one was recorded with ambience mics. That concert is on YouTube with the exception of Same old song and dance which is inexplicably missing. I'm looking for a version of that concert with SOSAD.

Batman! I play the Aerosmith version as a special treat for my neighbors every now and then.
