Joey may not be with the band during the tour, but he's not forgotten even if a machine has many moving parts. I've recently had the March 1983 soundboard reels re-transferred at 192 kHz utilizing a studio with a Ampex ATR-104 machine. Reels were baked and ported through a Universal Audio 2192 AD/DA into ProTools.
* Because the solo came at the end of the reel, the tape ran out -- and I don't have the second Augusta '83 reel, if there was one that survived (maybe it's languishing at Iron Mountain pining for its partner). But I do have the second Yarmouth reel from the following night (LOL, but not the first reel), so I've created a hybrid using the fresh transfers from each to present Joey's complete solo. I've blended the transition ~6:09 to keep as much of the original Augusta solo intact, but allow the piece to reach conclusion with the roughly 30 seconds of Yarmouth.
Upside to the new transfer, is gone is the annoying hi-frequency artifact that afflicted the original transfer, and much improved clarity.

Joey's were interesting because he had such a small basic kit, unlike most of his contemporaries.... Neil Peart, Alex Van Halen, Peter Criss etc.... He didn't rely on flashiness, it was just his body and skills. Never gets the credit he deserves.
