I heard about a big fire where the house was a total loss in Sunapee on the way to work yesterday morning. My first thought was, was it Steven's house? But when they mentioned ~25 residents displaced I realized it couldn't be Steven's house. They never mentioned that it was the property that the barn was on though.
Nice that the barn was saved for now, but in reality it will soon be torn down. No one is going to care enough to save it when the house is gutted. This is a sad loss.

The apartments on the ground floor looked quite nice when I was there in 2020. Hopefully the history of the Barn is enough to preserve it, but in this day and age it's all about $$$

I expect they will rebuild the main unit in to look very similar and leave The Barn in tact. Building more rental units likely won't fly there.
This isn't Boston. It's a small town of about 3,400 people. I doubt Sunapee even has anything else in the conversation for most historical significance.
Even among people who aren't fans of Aerosmith, small town residents are usually pretty big on their towns history, which for a place that size is usually very little. Kind of ironic, looking up notable people from Sunapee, Ken Burns is one one of 2 people listed besides Steven. He is famous for making historical documentaries for PBS.
Just look at the quote from the town fire chief;
I'm sure enough residents will be watching to make sure no permits are sought to tear down The Barn and replace it with more rental units, and ready to show up with torches and pitchforks should anyone try.

I didn't know the Barn was an apartment building now. No surprize. Many old clubs are something else now. My old elementary school is an apartment building.
