There was that guy, almost full blown Ebola on a plane headed for the US. They took him off the plane because he was sick and I THINK he is dead now. I doubt this is the thing that takes half of us out. But if he was just a little more healthy, had gotten infected 6 hours later and had made it to the US......maybe we should be more tripped out about this. www.dailymail.co.uk/ushome/index.html

Yup they did. Rush was talking about this on his show yesterday and said that what the USA used to do in something like this and what many countries still do is seal off their borders and stop travel to the countries where the outbreak is going on but not with this administration. He said several doctors wearing hazmat suits have gotten this. He thinks the media is going to cause a panic about this but I think just the opposite. I heard on the news today that they said it's unlikely this will spread in the US because you need to have direct contact with someone who is infected to get it...so why then did the doctors in hazmat suits get infected and die? I think it takes up to a week for the incubation period so how many people can someone come in direct contact with an infected person in a week?
But just keep allowing millions of illegals to come across the borders with who knows what diseases!

I refuse to live in fear. We all will die at some time.
since1976...that is a frightening scenario. That could have been a huge problem if he had not been stopped due to being ill.
donnaroxx...the 2 aides workers who are with Samaritan's Purse (a great charity btw) are the ones coming back here. They are both American's. And will be at Emory U Medical Center in special rooms set up in conjunction with the CDC for such a reason. They have been trained and this was something they did before all this happened. It was a "just in case" thing which now is happening.
You need to come into physical contact with the person bodily fluids. Symptoms can take 2-21 days to come out after contact. I do agree Daryl, that with illegals coming in droves over the border, we do not know what they are bringing with them. We know that the resistant strain of TB is a huge problem along with other things.

See that thinking scares me. These people are our countrymen...do we turn our backs on them in their time of need? They went out there knowing there was a risk but also to do good work...helping others. The mentality of so many in this country is frightening,

I think we will know when to change our thinking for the greater good.

Well Dr. Brantley is back here at Emory U Hospital in the special isolation unit. When he exited the ambulance from the military airport....he walked in with assistance. A good sign IMO.

It's not too hard to catch this. Obviously if doctors in hazmat suits can get it, it can't be that hard to get it. I don't know if anyone is watching the series The Last Ship but even though it's a TV show...that scenario isn't too far fetched. The very fact that Obama has authorized sick Americans to be put in FEMA camps should tell you just how bad this is.

And if you don't believe me...here it is... www.dcclothesline.com/2014/08/01/obama-signs-executive-order-detain-americans-respiratory-illnesses/Obama Signs Executive Order to Detain Americans With “Respiratory Illnesses”Posted on August 1, 2014 by Paul Joseph Watson Amendment comes in wake of Ebola scare
As the Ebola outbreak continues to cause concern, President Barack Obama has signed an amendment to an executive order that would allow him to order the apprehension and detention of Americans who merely show signs of “respiratory illness.”
The executive order, titled Revised List of Quarantinable Communicable Diseases, amends executive order 13295, passed by George W. Bush in April 2003, which allows for the, “apprehension, detention, or conditional release of individuals to prevent the introduction, transmission, or spread of suspected communicable diseases.”
The amendment signed by Obama replaces subsection (b) of the original Bush executive order which referred only to SARS. Obama’s amendment allows for the detention of Americans who display, “Severe acute respiratory syndromes, which are diseases that are associated with fever and signs and symptoms of pneumonia or other respiratory illness, are capable of being transmitted from person to person, and that either are causing, or have the potential to cause, a pandemic, or, upon infection, are highly likely to cause mortality or serious morbidity if not properly controlled.”
Although Ebola was listed on the original executive order signed by Bush, Obama’s amendment ensures that Americans who merely show signs of respiratory illness, with the exception of influenza, can be forcibly detained by medical authorities.
Although the quarantining of people suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus seems like a perfectly logical move, the actual preconditions for this to happen aren’t restricted to just those suffering from the disease.
As we highlighted earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has measures in place for dealing with an outbreak of a communicable disease which allow for the quarantine of “well persons” who “do not show symptoms” of the disease.
In addition, under the Model State Emergency Health Powers Act, public health authorities and governors would be given expanded police powers to seize control of communications devices, public and private property, as well as a host of other draconian measures in the event of a public health emergency.
When the legislation was introduced, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons warned that it “could turn governors into dictators.”
Yesterday it was reported that Emory University Hospital in Atlanta was set to receive a patient infected with Ebola. A hospital in Germany also accepted an infected patient earlier this week. Some critics have raised concerns about the risk of deliberately importing infected individuals into the west.

Just a "way out there" thought: Why didn't we send people to treat the two Americans where they were? I agree we should help...but we can't help everyone everywhere. My father and his wife(who is in some seriously advanced stage of Alzheimer's), both of whom are insulin-dependent diabetics....could use live-in help...just like millions of others here. Why don't we have solutions for that? Why are the two people who went to Africa and contracted this anymore important than any two other people on the planet/from America? However you want to look at it...Why on't my neighbors get the psychiatric help they need? Where do we decide the lines should be drawn? I don't want to live in fear either. My own death doesn't scare me, but must we invite it on such a grand scale?

Because our elected don't actually care. They act according to what will cause them the most embarrassment if they do not act on it. "Everyone" has diabetes so individual cases will never make news. But then you know all that Donna.
