Since the band is always struggling to come up with a set list to please as many people as possible and they are always pointing this out, I think they should take some proactive marketing at the concerts.
It's so simple. Send out 25 volunteers into the crowd before each show or during intermission between bands and have people either pick pre-written set lists or just pick songs that band is willing to play. I am not suggesting that the set list on a particular night be construed from the fans of that show, but a general consensus will emerge. Let the chips fall where they may. Doing this on the net or via Face Book is not as accurate as you will have people offering suggestions who do not have a vested interest in the show as many will not be attending, and the results will be skewed. I think having two or three competing set lists for fans to choose from would be the best approach, and that way, the fans of a particular show could write their own set list. But the problem with that is that there could be two or three duds offered to fans for set lists and all three could be Geffen heavy or 70's heavy. List the songs and have the people pick 18 or so and then draw from those conclusions.

I think it couldn't work as 20 people out of 10000 are just a small number but I agree, they need a new way of making setlits. I am still sure that the majority of fans appreciate cryin, pink, IDWTMAT, Jaded and the more pop stuff as "die hards" are really the minority imo, but in the States they were already huge in the 70s so I think they can have more balanced sets at least there.

How about when anyone buys a ticket, they automatically receive an email with a link to a poll. The poll lists all of their songs and they are allowed to pick 20. Then the computer generates a setlist based on the voters from that concert, for that concert.
The poll will list all of their songs, but the band has final say on which songs they are willing to play. This way, they may not play all of the songs that the masses want to hear, but at least they will know they are willingly choosing to disappoint the majority on certain songs. Other than that, the setlist should please the greatest number of people at any given show.

Ok, call their manager NOW!
