I absolutely love this 'red headed stepchild' album from Aerosmith's dark days. I actually heard Jailbait on the way in this morning and cranked it. It still sounds amazing to me today. I know there are mixed feeling on this one, but I've never understood the dislike for it. To me it is a balls out rocker that stands up to the best of them. Among other highlights for me is Push Comes To Shove - what a great down and dirty blues tune that captures the story of Aerosmith as it was happening.

I too love this album! One thing that really surprises me about it is how well put together it is, every song really flows into the next and the album really keeps the same feel throughout it I'm always confused when I see this album ranked their worst album too, I think it's a pretty well made album despite everything going on at that time for the band

Huge fan of this album and without Joe and Brad. It sounds more like Aerosmith to me than the new stuff. As fucked up as Steven was, he was still able to deliver. His voice, lyrics and bad ass attitude were still there. Imagine how bad an album would be now without Joe and Brad? Hell, even with them MFAD was an obomination. In my opinion mostly due to Steven's input.

Great record. Still remember when it got released. Crazy times for the band. A few months later I watched Tyler pass out at the Centrum in Worcester. Well, he collapsed back stage actually and then they played Toys without Tyler and then on came the lights. He could barely stand from start to finish. Messed up. I remember going to the record store in Salem New Hampshire to buy it and the clerk wrote "Return of Tyler" on the receipt. The record is totally bad ass though. Jail Bait, Bitches Brew....F'ng Tyler LOL.
I also remember listening to WBCN the day after the Centrum show and Mark Parenteau saying "Well, Steven couldn't make it through the show last night"- so I called the station to see if they new what happened and the dude that answered the phone said it was to much Coke and Whiskey. Mark Parenteau was tight with the band and had lived in the same apartment building as Perry. I honestly like RIAHP better than anything post Mirrors.

A real good album certainly very underrated. The only negatives for me are the lyrics which I feel are hit and miss if I compare them to other albums to this point. The latter part of this album isn't great either imo (except for push comes to shove which is undeniably fantastic). First 5 tracks are amazing as is pcts. Love the swagger of Bolivian ragamuffin, it's just funky!

I'm so so with this one. I think it rocks harder than all the newer stuff. And the track listing is great. What is even more amazing about this album is that Steven was able to sing and write the way he did as messed up as he was. Shows what a prolific storyteller and writer he can be. Which is what is so frustrating with MFAD. We know what he can do, but then he gives us lyrics like he did with Oh Yeah. Put the lyrics to that song up against anything from RIAHP and it just makes you incredibly sad. If put up against Night in the Ruts however, I have to go with Ruts as being preferable. Steven didn't sound so stoned, which is my only flaw I don't like about the album. This is one where you can certainly hear the drugs in Steven's voice and it didn't do him justice.

I honestly like RIAHP better than anything post Mirrors. I do as well. I actually like it better than Mirrors too. I have a soft spot for PV also so I am not sure where that would fit in.

I like this album a lot.....always loved the title track..!! Must admit I never really understood some of the negativity toward it , most of which seemed purely based on the fact that Joe and Brad weren't involved. Jimmy Crespo really plays his a$$ off.....I'd say he put in some serious hours writing material for this record. Production wise it's awesome, lots of cool effects and panned tracks going on....listen to it with headphones to get the full effect ! Speaking as a drummer myself I also think some of Joey's best drumming is on this album.......pure rocking out !

I remember buying this on vinyl when it was released. I really liked it, and still do. It is a strong hard rock album with the boogie/blues influence that make Aerosmith so great. Jimmy certainly was a strong riff master and player. Some great solos on this record. The tour, on the other hand, was awful (at least the show I saw). Tyler and Dufay where beyond stoned. Dufay could barely play. Really missed Brad. On the other hand, Jimmy was great--would have like to see him cut loose a little more rather than play all Joe's parts. Song selection was really good, though only two off of RIHP--LIghten Strikes and the title track. I put in on par with Ruts, and certainly better than anything post Pump.

I remember playing this album in its entirety on a long car trip with my girlfriend at the time. She is an average to just above average Aerosmith fan. She absolutely hated it. Said it was by far their worst album. She loves Live Bootleg just to show you all that she is not just a pink hat fan. I on the other hand love this album

I love the desperation in Steven's voice in Jailbait. The screams, grunts, & breaths throughout the song just are so raw and organic.
I really like Joanie and I wonder what Crespo/Tyler could have created if ST had his act together and put out another album during that era.
Push Comes to Shove may be the best rock ballad ever written by a man about another man. I've heard that the sounds at the end of Push is a recording of a angry and drunken Joe Perry shooting a gun at cymbals. Can anybody confirm that?

I've heard that the sounds at the end of Push is a recording of a angry and drunken Joe Perry shooting a gun at cymbals. Can anybody confirm that? I've never heard that, but its an interesting bit of trivia in any case, whether it is true or not. Anyone else able to confirm or deny this? I will say it seems a bit unlikely since while there are cymbals crashing, I've never noticed any gun shot sounds.
