I believe most people are doing both... I know everyone I know that's done it has donated money.. and I believe all of these bands are donating big money.

It's supposed to be for charity yet all I see are egomaniacs having a good old laugh, No explanation of what the f-ck ALS is or how to donate, Let's just pour ice over ourselves, F-cking narcissist bast-ards. Exactly..what stupid narcissitic moronic bullsheeit this is.
It's at the point where dumbass clueless fuckers are pouring ice water over themselves and taking selfies because they think it's "cool".
God almighty...humans are so fucking stupid sometimes.

meh, whatever... If its not this it will be something else they are taking selfies of. I wouldn't do this challenge, but its fun watching others do it.
And yes Lin, most of the famous people doing this have stated that they are also donating.

I think it's a good thing but hope it doesn't just become a fad. They need to keep the reason for doing this front and center. I saw a clip of KISS doing it and I did not hear them say a word about ALS. It just might not have been recorded. But if they did not mention it, then shame on them.

OVer $15 million has been raised for ALS research. I think the Ice Bucket Marketing Campaign is working.

You were dismayed? The man is a total piece of garbage. I guess "hope and change" doesn't cure ALS

The original challenge from what I remember reading were 6 people that had friends or family suffering from ALS that decided as a joke to start this as a fund raiser and to get awareness. The original challenge was, be video'd getting ice water dumped over you because the re-action had some sort of similarity to what sufferers of ALS feel or something like that and donate $10, if you didn't do the challenge when you were named on twitter or facebook (whatever social media) you paid a forfeit for not doing it and donated $20. It started to steamroll and eventually someone had a famous friend that took it on and they donated $10 000 and did the challenge, so now if you are rich and famous and do the challenge you donate $10 000 and if you forfeit you donate $20 000. I heard Bill Gates did it and then donated like a million?

KISS did mention on Twitter that they are donating $10,000 And Obama gave $100. What a cheap skate! I respectfully disagree with you on this. A band like Kiss is free to pick and choose whichever charities - if any - it wants to support. But if a president (ANY president, not just Barack Obama) starts making huge personal PUBLIC donations to charity, every charity in the world will start knocking at the door. And then when one of them eventually gets turned down, the president will be criticised for doing THAT. He can't really win. The other thing is, most people who give to charity do so privately. (I hate the modern-day habit of people boasting how much they have given - charity shouldn't be done for self-promotion.) I have no idea what Obama has or hasn't done, but for all we know he might have given a lot more privately to this charity, or to others. I'm not saying he says. I'm just saying we don't know.
