Magnum - Into the Valley of the Moonking
They've been around for way longer than I've been alive, but it was this album they put out in 2009 that I discovered them with. A friend of mine who was in the rock press reviewed it and included A Face in the Crowd as a sample. I was instantly hooked. If I had to make a soundtrack for my life, this song would have to be on it.

Poison ~ Crack a Smile ... and more.
This is absolutely fantastic. I am ashamed I put off buying this for so long. What happened to this guitarist. Blues Saraceno? He is killing it on this. Bret's vocals sound great as always. Their previous album with Kotzen was a heavy darker album. This one is a sleazy party fest, awesome! If you haven't heard this, I recommend. Here's some of my favs:
The bonus tracks are from the Unplugged performance. Love the version of Thorn, Bret sounds crazy good. Better than the studio track:

Dynamite ~ Big Bang I have got to declare my addiction to this new band. This is high-energy, feel-good, hard rocking classic rock n roll. They are from Sweden and writing perfect Rock N Roll....in English! Sweden is country of about 10 mill. people and seem to be contributing about half of the great new bands! ...and these bands are actually popular and appreciated in Sweden! Thank you Sweden, you a truly a Rock N Roll nation!!!
USA, England... where are the new bands? You're looking like Rock N Roll dinosaurs !

Kreator - Dying Alive (live DVD)
By far their best standalone, official live release. They've talked about getting better live (even though cautiously - "maybe it's all in our heads"). I can definitely hear it. This show and all the professionally recorded festival shows from recent years that have made their way on YouTube sound way better than anything from 10+ years ago.
It's funny because Sami said in an interview that he called in to ask if there's anything he needs to fix in the studio (and was told no, it's supposed to feel live), but I actually like a lot of stuff way better as it sounds on this DVD. For example, this song, especially the acoustic part at the beginning.

Kreator - Renewal (2018 re-release with bonus stuff)
This was the first of the four more experimental albums of the '90s. And the one that I like best out of those four. Particularly the title track.
By the way, super cool they're progressively doing this with the older stuff (even more, with extra goodies packed in). I know what it's like to only be able to find an album on ebay at outrageous prices. I haven't experienced this with Kreator in particular, though I remember Mille saying in an interview he was aware that used to be the case with Coma of Souls before they re-released it. So yeah, I think it's cool when bands do this... I got the Renewal album for under $8 now!
I also really liked how they advertised the whole thing. They posted various pieces of info on the songs from the albums they were re-releasing with a little note about this at the bottom.

Okay... here goes! The live stuff:
Kreator - Live Kreation DVD. I'm aware this was an awkward one for them as they didn't have their own crew and relied on locally hired people to shoot it and some of the footage got lost and the image quality ended up being uneven and they weren't happy with it. But it's the first video documenting what their shows were like immediately after Sami joined the band so I really wanted to have it.
Gamma Ray - Skeletons and Majesties DVD. I LOVE the whole skeletons (in the closet) concept! Basically, they asked the fans online what rarely/ never played song they'd like to hear and those that came up on top made the set on the following tour. And they recorded a DVD of it. So yeah, damn cool.
Saxon - Let Me Feel Your Power (live). Gosh, Saxon live! I love how fierce they are live, how unscripted their whole show is.
Accept - Restless and Live. Feels like forever since I last saw them, but it was last year. Anyway, I had been playing their previous live (the show in Chile from the Blind Rage bonus DVD) to death, so I definitely had to have this as well.

Okay... here goes! The live stuff:
Great to see live albums being appreciated. It seems with today's technology it should be easier for bands to release more live stuff. But there seems to be less and less. For example, how does a band as big as Van Halen only have 2 live albums?

Can't complain about Alice here, but I'm really looking forward to his live album (coming out this month). Also on my list is Dimmu Borgir's Forces of the Northern Night - I was glued to the screen when I saw the clips from that posted on the Nuclear Blast channel. Would have been cool if the Hollywood Vampires had documented their 2018 tour this way - those were some fucking epic shows I saw!

The video quality is sadness compared to newer recordings. It doesn't look like a truly professional recording. But I love the music and it's so cool to have a live recording of some songs that don't make the sets these days anymore.
