Where did you even read cancer surgeries are suspended? Only minor non essential surgeries are suspended here. One of my best friends is a radiologist. She called me because she was getting bored. For the past few weeks, they've mostly been doing nothing, waiting for the apocalypse the news keep talking about. But if you're so right then why the whole world is in a sort of lockdown? They're all stupid? I doubt that would be the first time in human history. Remember, asbestos, used for two thousand years. Now without taking the piss, it's actually a great business opportunity to pretend affected by this and take a fat sum from the government. Cronyism isn't stupid. It knows when to abuse the rules and get a good deal. People are getting money in most developed countries either by cash flow, grocery vouchers, temporary unemployment and other welfare tools. Thanks for proving my point. It's only the rich and those well off enough to have access to any kind of welfare who are getting any help. Those at the very bottom are getting absolutely nothing, yet their lives are disrupted the most. Maybe the situation is not so difficult in your country and that's exactly because we all acted to slow the outbreak. I don't wish you to live in Bergamo, Madrid or any other big city in critical condition. Maybe you don't actually understand the situation. Maybe this helps you understand the situation better. We have 3x more hospital beds per capita than Italy. 2x more ICU beds per capita. The buildings and equipment are old and run-down, there's a chronic lack of medication (except antibiotics, I'll get to that in a minute), almost everything is filthy, entire floors smell like piss (if you think I'm joking, I'm not... the air in hospital bathrooms can be so bad I once passed out), for entertainment in hospital you can play catch the spider or squash the cockroach. You're really likely to get a bacterial infection because disinfectants have been diluted for years, so now everybody going in gets a ton of antibiotics so they hopefully don't croak before they get shipped out. No hospital wants a high fatality rate, so they've been getting damn good at finding ways so that people die elsewhere. But we do have the number of beds. Partly, it's the communist inheritance. Back from the days when any form of contraception was banned so that the population would increase artificially and there would be more people working for the glory of the republic and that of the great leader, too bad there's no Hell for him to be rotting in right now. After '89, things were allowed to go back to normal and the population shrunk by over 15%. Physical hospital buildings have not. Partly, it's because people were bound to get sick and tired of the conditions, so there was a good market for private hospitals. Less paperwork bullshit, less humiliation, less filth. I should probably clarify that private hospitals here are not cheap, but they're not beyond reach financially. I'd be shocked if fixing my busted ankles got to 5000€. It's a hell lot for me, but as long as I was able to work, I could save up the money. Just work harder and that's it. I'm an extremely private person, so I do enjoy the freedom of just walking in, paying and having things taken care of, no question asked. I didn't know it at first, so that ship has sailed, but I could have even avoided providing my real name. Our first wave of initial infections were people who caught this while at work in Western Europe and flocked back because they had no formal contracts and no social safety whatsoever in the countries where they were working. These are not generally old sick people. So for almost a month everybody infected was just fucking fine and the only cases in ICU were two old rich dudes who got it from prostitutes. I haven't heard of either of them croaking yet, so they've obviously been getting better care than the average person. The first person to die was a guy who returned from France to die home because he had terminal cancer, but then it was discovered he also had the virus. Second wave was hospital personnel. Which was what made all Hell break loose at Suceava. Last time I checked, hospital personnel was about a tenth of all those infected. As for measures working. We've now been on lockdown for a little over three weeks and it's only in the past week that the number of cases started going nuts. And it's not due to increased testing. I'd really wish they'd test more.

Testify!
It sure as hell is achieving that nevertheless, especially the former.
Keeping your hands and fingers away from your eyes, mouth & face in general is supposed to be a main focal point of keeping the virus from spreading. Our State government has now "suggested" everyone now wear a mask of some sort. So you've got a clumsy ass population to begin with, now sprinkle in some more fear & hypochondria to their already fragile mindset constantly poking their clumsy ass fingers and hands to a face mask they don't know how to remove and put on properly to begin with. I don't use a mask for a couple reasons for want of a better term the what I'll call "medical" class mask you can buy I'm not going to use because I feel they should all be going/made available to nurses, doctors first responders etc and NOT me. As for homemade ones to me there is not enogh evidence they do enough good to warrant it. I would never knock anyone who does wear/use any of these mask but if you are for the fucking love of god learn put on and take the thing off correctly and deal with any minor discomfort it might cause without putting your goddamned hands all over your face. The possibility for more harm than good from these is real to me.

Here in the U.K. the young and healthy are dying in big numbers, and they don’t all work in hospitals. Yes there are a lot of doctors and nurses exposed with a lack of PPE but also people from all walks of life who have come in to contact with someone at random and succumbed to the virus... The first person mentioning microchip conspiracies was Peter; his other posts tell you all you need to know about that! 800 under age 50 have died in the US, 40 under age 40 have died in the UK. Not enough to close economies.

Not enough to close economies. 1) We clearly have different definitions of what "young" is, then 2) The UK tried the "I'm alright, Jack, who cares if a few old people die" approach, and quickly changed track 3) Even if you don't die from it, you can get *very* ill, to the extent that you need ICU care. And that can happen no matter how old you are. And this is what the curve-flattening is about, making sure the hospitals are not overwhelmed with very sick people

The possibility for more harm than good from these is real to me. Okay, this is an important point. The general population wearing masks and being generally cautious is a very important component of why a country like South Korea stopped it early. Intensive testing and having the best healthcare system in the world were the other two big components of it. And the fact that a lot of them were wearing just surgical masks and not the FFP3 kind (which I believe are called N95 in the US) is pretty telling of the fact that you don't need a mask that's 100% efficient at stopping everything from getting out or in. You just need a lot of people wearing them properly. And that's exactly where things break here. In that part of the world, they already have a culture of wearing masks and they've learned how to do it properly. Not what I've been seeing here, where a lot of people seem to think they breathe through the neck. Where apparently the virus just gets scared if it sees you wearing a mask and gloves, so it's okay to rub your eyes right after pressing the button at the pedestrian stop or start picking your teeth with the same finger that was on your grocery bag just moments before. I've also seen a guy wearing a FFP2 mask upside down, with the part that should prevent stuff from coming in through the sides of his nose on his chin. Well that's a waste of a good mask... Side note: this is one reason why I think the FFP2/ FFP3 masks are better off used by those in hospitals and I've avoided going for them this far. It's really not easy to fit them so that nothing at all comes in and to test that you've done a good job. I'm thinking it may be particularly difficult for me given my facial structure. Let's not even bring up how many people touch their faces while putting them on or taking them off in the supermarket parking lot. It's only in the supermarket that people can pass you the virus. Not when in a queue outside. Now I've seen this. She didn't leave the house for three weeks and still caught the virus by picking the grocery bag dropped in front of the door without wearing gloves and without washing her hands. Certainly not properly. Well, darling, what did you think? That the virus is just going to hop off the bag at the door and not come into your house out of respect for the fact that you're locking yourself in? So yeah, while everyone wearing protective gear could help a lot if done properly, it appears a lot of education needs to be drilled into people's brains first. I wear scarves for now because I can multilayer them to fill in gaps around my nose better and all other sides are tucked under a beanie and other items of clothing. I want to make it clear that this is not guaranteed to stop the virus, but this is one of those situations where I feel something is better than nothing. My best friend is choosing not to because he has trouble breathing with the mask on. Which is something I think might become an issue for me with the scarves once the weather gets hot. We'll see. Anyway, everyone should wash those paws! Properly, with soap.

Masks serve to limit the production and spread of droplets from out mouth and nose mote than filter the air we breathe. If we leave less droplets around the chances of contagion are reduced. That's the main point. N95/FPP3 masks are for professionals who work in areas where the virus might be in aerosol form (people who work with ventilators for instance).
Education is indeed very important and that's what governments are doing right now while taking time for us to catch up.

I taped up my eye level cabinet with two pieces go packing tape and my cat torn the tape off, got in the cabinet and ate a bunch of her treats just now.....lil shit. off topic

Are your surgical spirit bottle labels also... um, slightly pornographic? I wonder what Mona is doing with that left hand. Must be hot where Mara lives. Ana makes me think of Wednesday Addams. Ready to strangle you with that stethoscope.

Yeah this is a disgrace. What happens if you have something already booked in 2021? Are people supposed to cancel weddings so they can make the new concert date? The reason I chose Krakow was Aerosmith and Pearl Jam were playing Sunday and Monday. The chances of that happening again are slim to none. I can't go to Krakow twice now!

In any event, as far as I know, none of these girls has been available in any stores since my birthday almost a month ago. No toilet paper shortage however. Guess we're more accustomed to balding the bushes we pass by on the way to the store around these parts.
