Tom didn't have a family member sub for him, but he needed a sub for most of the Aussie/Asia tour and the South American tour. If they had canceled the shows, they never would have been able to make it up. Total disappointment for me with Tom getting sick here in Oz, David Hull did a great job but I felt I wasn't seeing Aerosmith or getting what I paid for. That said, I wasn't angry at Tom, better he was at home taking care of himself. But would you have rather had David play in his place, or that they cancel the tour? I would rather they play, unless it was Steven or Joe who were unable.

Given it was Australia and the chances of them coming back to make up cancelled dates, then nope I didn't have a problem and as I said he did a great job. If it was the states and a good chance of another tour or something then maybe not so much. It did annoy me that we weren't offered our money back because of David subbing, I wouldn't have taken it but I think it should have been offered as without Tom I wasn't seeing what I had originally paid for and especially the people that paid for the Q&A. That said Tom is one of my fave members so maybe I wouldn't have been annoyed if it was one of the others.

It might have made a difference for some. Of course, you make a good point about it being Australia and as it was, it was 20 years between tours, or something like that.

I think the fact that he is family is better than just a random drummer, as long as he is up to the task, which he seems to be. He's not Joey Kramer, but he'll do in a pinch. If Led Zeppelin (yes, Zeppelin again) were to do a 'reunion' tour, I think having Jason Bonham on drums would be MUCH more than preferable to some hired drummer. Not the same situation, I know, but just saying that a qualified family member is the best route to go.
All that being said, if I was at my first Aerosmith show I would be extremely disappointed if ANY of the guys were missing. Part of the thrill (for me anyway) is having personal bragging rights that I was even in the same room for a brief time with these 5 guys.

Every drummer has their own feel, and If you have a good ear for music you can tell how glaring it was not having Joey play on some of those songs, at least the ones I saw video of. He is the feel of aerosmith! He may not be all flashy, but his feel is what makes aerosmith. I've been in a lot of different bands with different drummers, and they were all guitar bands, but the drummer will make or break your band, it's the back bone, the soul of your band, and if your drummer doesn't have the right feel for your songs, then your band isn't going to sound that great. That is why Steven was on Joey's ass all of those years. Joey im sure was a great drummer, but Steven wanted precisely an exact feel, and that feel is a major part of an Aerosmith songs, especially their heavier material. Jesse did a great job but you can tell he was a little nervous (understandably) because it seemed that he just focused on keeping the tempo of the songs, he didn't have the feel for the songs that his dad has. That being said I personally wouldn't want anyone else filling in for Joey besides his son, it's fitting.

What is everybody referring to when they say "Steven was on Joey's ass all those years" I remember in the making of Pump there were some issues between Tyler & Kramer regarding the drums but I thought that was just one particular song from that record. Please fill me in. Also, your a musician, you will notice things that 99.9999999% of us will not. If I did not know Joey was out for a concert and just listened back to audio, I would not have a clue that Joey was not playing or that something was "off". One reviewer did say it was obvious Jessee was struggling with Eat the Rich at the George, Washington concert. I'd like to hear that, but can't find it.

Well I'm not a musician but I do agree that drums are extremely improtant a drummer can make a BIG difference. I could definitely hear differences between Joey and his son but I think that's good for Jesse who has his own flow. Then I can't imagine the pressure that the guy had during the show, especially because he is a family member!

Joey's book goes into great detail on how Steven used to ride him like a pack mule.

The first half was entertaining with some of his stories of the early years. I never finished it though because I couldn't take all his woah is me and whining after awhile. It was just too much...

What is everybody referring to when they say "Steven was on Joey's ass all those years" Joey said in his book and interview that his father and Steven were the cause of the twitch in his eye. Having been in business with someone who was bullied before I met him, most likely it was mostly his father who caused it and he couldn't handle Steven as the rest of the band did. I agree Nick. I thought it wasn't the best drumming, but it was adequate and cool that one of the kids was filling in. Of the music I listen to only Phil Rudd, Larry Mullen and Steve Alder have stood out to me as exceptional and I am not so sure that Steve Alder was not as important to GNR's sound as was Slash and Axl. All other drummers seem to just do their job, which is what they are there for.

I haven't read any of the books. I think I skimmed Walk This Way. I guess I'm not a "Super Fan" LOL. Half the stuff in those books is probably bull shit anyway. Only read some of Joey's because it was a gift.

I just realised we are perpetuating the LI3. A few of us have said Tom, Joey and Brad are allowed subs so the tour goes on but not Steven or Joe. Kinda sux of us!
