Steven Tyler to Record Country-Influenced Solo Albumby Dave Lifton October 4, 2014 2:36 PM Steven Tyler will spend the first few months of 2015 working on a solo album. He broke the news yesterday (Oct. 3) and, in a surprise, said that it will have somewhat of a country feel to it. Tyler participated in a video Q&A with Twitter Music at Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco. As you can see in the video here, one fan asked for information about his solo album, and Tyler gave some details. “I’m going down to Nashville [in] January, February, March, April to write and see what we get,” he said. “You know, doing an album is kind of like panning for gold. You get so much sand and dirt until you find a little nugget and you work on the nugget. I always go backwards, you know? ‘Living on the Edge,’ why? Or ‘Janie’s Got a Gun,’ why? Who’s Janie? And then it works. You fill in the blanks.” While recording in Nashville doesn’t necessarily indicate steel guitars and fiddles, it was the next part, where he explained his country roots, where he said that he was looking in that direction. “I grew up with the Everly Brothers,” he continued. So even ‘Cryin”s got a little [sings with an exaggerated twang] “There was a time when I was brokenhearted.” It started like that — of course I had to do it Aerosmith-ish, which was more rocked out — but there’s a piece of me that just loves country so much. And I’m not sure what kind of country that is, but it’s got the fifth harmony, and anyone who knows who the Everly Brothers is — it’s those kinds of melodies that are just so, so good.” Tyler has been batting around the idea of a solo album for a while, but little has been heard about it since last November, when he said that he had met with Rick Rubin to discuss producing it. Rubin produced Run-D.M.C.‘s smash version of ‘Walk This Way’ that featured Tyler and Joe Perry. His mindset is why Aero will never be great again. They could be, but he won't allow it. The only Aero songs he even mentions here are second-gen "hits". His mind has turned completely to mush.

I know one person who won't be buying it if he does. Actually, I know more than one.

But hey, all the cool 14 year old girls are into country now, so yeah, it must be the way to go for a 66 year old dude.

Yawn is right. But who knows what he's going to end up with or when? He's been talking about this solo album for years.

I predict ST will produce one "moderate" pop/country hit, to witch will crossover to the next tour. Just a hunch...

I know one person who won't be buying it if he does. Actually, I know more than one. Haha, my first thought when I saw the title was that you'll need a bucket after reading this Btw, Steven retweeted the Q&A (I don't really know if he skipped any, I just watched the videos he retweeted and didn't go digging deeper).

Lets face it, aerosmith jumped the shark many many years ago. I dont care what reality shows, talent shows, books, solo projects, wardrobe, halftime acts, facial hair, etc... The only thing i care about now is a good live show with proper setlists. I actually dont fault the guys for trying different things, as they must get bored with the same old same old..as long as they stay true to their roots when I shell out 200 to see and hear em on stage!

I personally quite like the idea of it being a country influenced album (Though I like country anyway!) A lot of modern country sounds more rock now anyway, (See Eric Church). The country influence can be heard in some 2nd generation Aerosmith songs too, such as; Crazy, What It Takes (To an extent), Can't Stop Loving You, What Could Have Been Love and Sedona Sunrise - Possibly the closest to country Aerosmith has ever been. Besides, this is a Steven Tyler record, not an Aerosmith one so I think it'd be interesting to hear him tackle a different genre. Still, about a year or so ago, he was talking about working with Psy and Deadmau5 (A terrible idea), so this whole country thing is more of a "I'll believe it when I see/hear it" kinda thing as far as I see.

WHO CARES!!!! One: It is Steven's project. It is not Aerosmith. (Yes, folks ST can do whatever he wants solo) Two: IF you do not like it, do not buy it.
I cannot believe without even hearing ONE SONG or with not even ONE SONG being written OR anything people are already judging what it will be like. Truly unbelievable. Not a country fan here...but there is an odd country song now and then I do like. With that said, IF there is a song or two I like when he gets this done, I can buy them..I do not need to buy a whole CD. This is 2014. I am not obligated to buy anything I do not want to hear and do not like.
Joe was talking about another solo CD...personally I hope he does a total Rock/Blues instrumental one...if he doesn't I will not cry...

Obviously "somebody" cares enough to go on a tirade and (once again) jump to the defense of ST.
Don't fault fans of old time hard rock from being disappointed that the lead singer of their favorite band has done a total 180 degree transformation and now seems to like everything EXCEPT for hard rock.

I'd much rather see Steven do a countrified album than total bubblegum pop, which is what I thought he'd do.
I much prefer "Can't Stop Lovin' You" to "Feels So Good" (or whatever his single was called).
Regardless, there is a good chance I won't buy it anyways. Just like I won't buy Joe's solo stuff. No offense to Steven or Joe.....

I would turn off CSLY way faster than Feels So Good, but they would both get shut off most of the time. I agree that I won't buy either album most likely, but yes, I will give them a chance first. I've never cared for Joe's solo material either. I guess i'm not a Joe/Steven fan, I'm an Aerosmith fan. Weird to think about, but there's a huge difference.
