I heard Legendary Child on the way home tonight and other than the whoa-ohs and the "Roses are red" section they song is actually quite heavy and good, IMO. It got me thinking about all the bitching about the album and the songs that 'suck' on it. While that may be true for some of the songs, I'm still very glad that they released some new music finally. The songs that are good on it are worth plowing through the rest to find them, and I'm glad for the new additions to my Aero-vault.
So yeah, if it were up to you, are you glad for what we got, or do you wish they would have given up on the studio releases before MFAD?

I know I am odd but the lyrics killed it for me. Songs start there for me for the most part. But keep new music coming!

I'm curious, how did the lyrics kill it for you? It was the story of the band through the years. Or do you mean the album in general?

I'm curious, how did the lyrics kill it for you? It was the story of the band through the years. Or do you mean the album in general? Exactly what you said. I could have loved and wanted to love Legendary Child but the lyrics were so lazy. Maybe it was better than I heard, but all I heard was the Def Leppard chanting..........which I love coming from DL That song ruined Oh Yeah for me because just the title of Oh Yeah out the same energy of LC. I like What Could have Been Love but found it late because it was surrounded by so much shit. Street Jesus is such an awesome title and the song just is crap. I love 90% of what they have put out in their career and the 10% fall in MFAD and Bartmans fav album

Yeah, but my main reason isn't actually connected to the album itself and the music on it.
I feel like releasing MFAD energized them. I still remember when they posted videos in 2011 to document the recording process with Jack Douglas and... it's hard to explain, but there was such a positive feel, like they just had life pumped back into them. And the tour in 2012... I was blown away when videos started showing up on YouTube! I hadn't seen them like that in years...
As for the album itself, it had enough songs so that I can say I like enough songs off it. But those that I dislike... I really dislike! And really, I have nothing against DW, but, please, somebody keep her far, far, far away from this band!
Legendary Child was a strange one. I was really disappointed with it at first... and then even more disappointed with WCHBL, though Lover Alot picked up my hopes for a while. Then I got just crazy about Oh Yeah (so much that the album version felt a bit of a letdown). Street Jesus was just ok for me at first, then really got under my skin. And eventually so did Legendary Child.
Luv XXX I was prepared to hate because of the dumb name, but turned out to be pretty cool. I literally screamed when I first heard the start of OGTL, loved it so much... I still do. Freedom Fighter was another that worked fine for me. As ALG started, I thought it was going to be another boring ballad, but I actually loved it. I still seek to listen to it. Found the deluxe bonus tracks better than some of the first 15 ones. And Shakey Ground was so much fun, loved it!

This album came out right when I was going through some of the most challenging times in my life and so I am really glad they released it and that it arrived when it did. Had they not released this album, it would have been that much more difficult for me to persevere, let's put it that way. I think part of it was just that it was new Aerosmith music, but on top of that, there are some really good songs here. The playing is really solid. Yeah, yeah, lyrics shmyrics, I get it. It's not Nine Lives or Toys in the Attic when it comes to the lyrics. But it's still an enjoyable record. Loved the upbeat rockers like "Legendary Child", "Oh Yeah", "Luv XXX", "Lover Alot", and "Out Go the Lights". Also, some of the ballads particularly struck a chord with me. "Another Last Goodbye" is one of Steven's greatest, most emotional vocal performances. "We All Fall Down" really struck a chord with me as well due to going through some very tough times. Some songs like "Beautiful" and "Can't Stop Loving You" could have been improved with some minor tweaks, but I still think they're good songs overall. As far as the overall album is concerned, it really would have benefited by totally eliminating the lame intro and outro, or by at least making them separate tracks, so I don't have to fast forward through the first 50 seconds of "Luv XXX" everytime I want to hear the song. Also, I do think the album is a little bloated and would have benefited from cutting a few tracks and putting them on the 2nd bonus disc. If it was me, I would probably cut "Tell Me", "Closer", and one of the Joe songs, and put those on the bonus disc. I think the main album would have been a tighter set then.
So, yes, I am very glad they released MFAD. And hopefully they can at least give us one more...hopefully something a little tighter.

I haven't bought it yet (on purpose), but I have the same feelings as since1976. The lyrics killed it for me, along with the lack of focus (some ballads, some rockers with cheesy lyrics, some collaborations with sucka$$ people).
I listened to Legendry Child several times on the radio and thought "This song has rocking potential, but the lyrics really suck." Imho, multiply that feeling by 100 for Lover Alot and Oh Yeah, way too cheesy, repetitive and plain lazy lyrics. Every second or third word seems to be "love" or "baby" anymore. I heard those songs at least 3-5 times, and have no desire to let them "grow on me" anymore. Street Jesus seemed mediocre at best to me in comparison to my baseline - their 70s stuff.
Another thing I miss in the newer stuff is there are very few extended jams or "slow grind ending in frenzy" like in Sick as a Dog, Draw the Line, SOSAD, etc. I really miss those things.

Next Tuesday will be 2 years for this album, I'll have to give it another listen then. There's quite a few songs that I'll always skip, but overall I enjoyed it. I think the following are all at least pretty good tracks; Oh Yea, Tell Me, Legendary Child, Street Jesus, Out Go the Lights, Another Last Goodbye, Up on a Mountain & Shakey Ground. I also enjoy Sunny Side of Love as a summer novelty song.
I wish they spent more time on the lyrics and the final product was a little more cohesive, but overall I got my $12 worth. Hopefully the upcoming AC/DC and Foo Fighters albums give rock a bit of a resurgence, and Steven's quest for what type of solo album to do ends with him deciding on a rocking Aerosmith record.

I thought the album sucked. Even the band realized it and they stopped playing any songs at all off of it during the tour. It just dilutes the potency of their catalog. Even more so than an awful album like JPP. There were a few somgs that had potential. If someone is happy with potential that is good. I prefer to listen to songs that I like from beginning to end without just piecing together parts I like or ignoring parts I don't like. That to me isn't a good song. Especially from a band like Aerosmith. Luv XXX - Don't like it Oh Yeah - Tried to like it and did for awhile.. Now I can't even make it through it. Beautiful - Terrible Tell Me - Just Bad Out Go The Lights - Hate the "Roses Are Red" part. Love everything else about it. Tough to like a song when you hate part of it. Legendary Child - Cool verses, don't mind the lyrics. Definately potential. Too bad for the boy band like Woah Oh's What Could Have Been Love - Pathetic Street Jesus - Just sounded forced. Isn't bad. pretty indifferent to it Can't Stop Lovin You - Lame Lover Alot - Fun song but forgetable We Fall Down - More pathetic that WCHBL Freedom Fighter - Good riff. Bad vocals and cheesy woah ohs Closer - blahhhhhh Something - bad Another Last Goodbye - Love It Aside from the two covers, all the B-Sides were crap too.. I really like Shakey Ground. I was really excited about I'm Not Talkin as well. It is pretty good but fell short of their live version.. It has been a year and I like the album even less than I did when it came out. I guess it is safe to say that I wish it never came out

I'm glad they released MFAD. As an album, it didn't make it for me, but I do like some of the songs. Most had to grow on my, but honestly, many never did. What I do like
Love XXX - The riff grabbed me right away, but the lyrics just are so juvenile, even for Steven. I do like the song and the melody, though, so it made the Aerosmith folder on my iPod Out Go the LIghts - Great riff again, sung well. I don't mind backing vocals usually, but they sound a little forced and take up too much of the song for my tastes. It does mike the iPod, though Street Jesus - Wanted to love it, but it sounded very pedestrian musically to me. It has grown on me and I don't skip it when it come up on the iPod Up oh the Mountain - I liked this one from the start. It has an old vibe to it, a hippie song, if you will. Shaky Ground - Cool I'm Not Talkin' - Another Cool one
Almost Liked these:
Beautiful - I like the into chords, but can't not stand the rapping/singing or the poppy chorus. A great start that disintegrates into a hybrid mess Lover Alot - I can get through this one sometimes, but usually I skip it if it comes up on my computer. Another good start that fall into mediocrity lyrically.
Oh Yeah & Legendary Child - Yawn. I tried to listen and like, but nothing at all captured my attention in these two. The riffs are bland.
The rest might as well have been left off.
I do agree with Ana that writing and recording did seem to energize the band. I hope there is more to come. I just wish they would have gone right back into the studio and carried the energy of the last tour with them. I worry that they will again start from a static place and not get the creative juices flowing because they waited too long.

I voted other.... I was really disappointed with MFAD and depending on the day if someone asks what do I think is the worst Aerosmith album I will interchange MFAD with Just Push Play.
But I really would like them to do something else, and maybe if they are away from record companies...
No A & R, just the guys and they take 10 songs (2 each) and work on them together instead of 20 that they don't have time for and they all end up mediocre... just my opinion.

.
I think this sums it up best for me. The songs that suck I don’t care about and the songs that were decent just don’t strike enough of my interest or make me care to listen to them again. I’m indifferent to them just as I am with MFAD as a whole. Street Jesus, which I like a lot, OGTL, and Shaky Ground are excellent but even those I rarely if ever go out of my way to listen to. So in direct answer to the question I’m neither ecstatic nor angry they released it there’s not enough on MFAD to extract any kind of emotion from me.

I'm glad they released it, but I don't like the album. Loved the Commonwealth show though.
I am hoping for more from them, but only because I don't want them going out on MFAD.
I appreciate Luv XXX, OGTL, Something, ALG. The rest of the album is either forgettable or down-right awful.

Still haven't picked up the album. Wondering if I should bother. I did listen to Nine Lives for the first time recently and really wasn't into it besides "Taste of India".

When you look at the entire Aerosmith catalog, MFAD is certainly one of the weaker entries, which is frustrating considering there was so much potential and such a long wait for it. But there are some real high points on it. I agree with whomever said helped them through some tough times - there was a lot of change going on in my life at the time (I think I didn't even get a chance to pick it up until about 2 weeks after it came out, if that tells you how crazy my life was at the time....a long-awaited album by my favorite band got pushed to the backburner). It was fun to escape into that album and explore it a bit, even if it was a bit disappointing.
After nearly 2 years I can say that the one real standout track to me that I still love to this day is Oh Yeah. I never get tired of that song, always brighten up a bit when it comes on my iPod. Yeah, it's simple, but it's fun.
I still think Street Jesus is a nice throwback to the '70s jams, but it doesn't hold up as well to repeat listens. It's long and unlike a song like Rats, it kind of drags? I still really appreciate its inclusion on the album and hope that if they do more new music, it's in this vein.
Everything else has kind of faded away into obscurity for me, as it seems to have done with the band.
I do hope they release more new music, but I'm thinking that a full-length album might not be their strength anymore. Less is more, and perhaps a single here and a single there is the way to go. If that focuses them and gets some really good songs, then why not?
