Daryl....that phenomenon began before Obama. And it continues. WHY do we give Big Oil huge subsidies when they make money hand over fist? Think about that. They have a million excuses to raise prices including "war". They have plenty of resources to tap from. A whole different topic to discuss. We still give subsidies to tobacco farmers. I really don't care if people smoke or smoke around me. But to demonize them for decades then give the growers tax dollars. I have to believe our government is not as insane as it appears and that I am just cranky.

I am finding this a fascinating subject. I am not in the least worried about the extra personel going to Bagdad. All I foresee them doing is organizing a convoy south in retreat to Saudi Arabia if Bagdad falls. If the new Islamic State draws their border at the outskirts of Bagdad and fills in behind then they are the problem of Iran, Turkey, Jordan, and ultimately Isreal. In the meantime it's the Russians to the rescue. The rewards for them are obvious. Their army is already pre-positioned in the Ukraine and the trip south would only take a week or weeks. In the meantime 5 old school TU-25s have been delivered. Looking for a forum to post pics and the maps and have a well informed discussion. If anyone knows one please post a link.
CNN couldn't independently confirm the different claims.
Russian jets arrive
Five Russian Sukhoi fighter jets have arrived in Iraq, the first of 25 warplanes expected to be delivered under a contract between Moscow and Baghdad, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
A video the ministry released Monday showed the jets, with wings unattached, being pulled toward hangars.
"These jet fighters will contribute to increase the combat capability of the air force and the rest of the armed forces in eliminating terrorism," the ministry said.
The Su-25 has been in service for more than three decades and was part of the Iraqi air force under Saddam Hussein's regime.
The announcement follows a comment by al-Maliki that recent militant advances might have been avoided if Iraq had proper air power in the form of fighter jets that Iraq has been trying to get from the United States.
"I'll be frank and say that we were deluded when we signed the contract" with the United States, al-Maliki told the BBC in the interview last week, which was released Friday.
Iraq has now turned to Russia and Belarus to buy fighter jets, he said. "God willing, within one week, this force will be effective and will destroy the terrorists' dens," he said.
U.S. officials were quick to reject al-Maliki's complaints.
U.S. fighter jets have not been slow in coming, Kirby said. The first two promised F-16s "weren't expected to be delivered until the fall, which is still months away," Kirby said. "And we were in the process of working towards that delivery."

I think we should be over there in force. Get it back under control, the best that can be done, and then back off and forever leave a "managing" level of military there. Why not pay American troops extra pay to be stationed in other countries. It would be better than handing over huge sums of cash to people we think will tow our course. You can't have overt terrorist in control of unlimited funds when they capture oil fields and create their own territory. I know I am not enjoying $4 gasoline and it will just get worse. We dropped the ball not backing them up with at least our air force. I probably said up above, I don't care if they asked us to leave, in the end we don't listen to people. We do as we please. To think we actually were worried our troops would be prosecuted for new laws coming into effect in Iraq is really silly.

We certainly have old jets lying around to deliver right now. We certainly need the money.
I really prey Bagdad falling is not an option for our government. Yeah, pride is quite a bit of it. I mean what was the purpose in getting rid of Saddam if you are going to let worse people move in and take over. I have heard talking heads on TV saying getting rid of Saddam was stupid. Just glad while they are not in charge, some people seem to have common sense. Yes yes yes, he was evil. I bet we killed 10x the people he did in the name of overcoming "evil". He at least had a handle on the situation. We did to until we pulled out EVERYONE. What the hell. It was anew government and we totaled their military. The boys scouts probably could have taken over Iraq if sent there.

We are aware Iranian politicians have learned to "play" to American sensibilities. It even worked. Not sure if still since it was exposed but we have a short term memory. I think I have a problem with them getting involved just because from what I understand about their religion and the history of their wars it would be a slap in the face to many Iraqis. Who knows.
We won't drill our oil fields and Obama just placed a huge portion of the ocean into a natural reserve making it unexplorable for natural resource. We won't build a silly pipeline to get more Canadian oil and the Canadians said last week or so they would build a pipeline to their western shore and sell it to the orient. Maybe its just a threat but it seems we like to bite our nose off to spite our face. So we need the oil from the middle east and we have removed people in power there so its our duty to make sure it all stays something close to sane in the area.
Let Russia help. If we don't act proper I guess the government of Iraq will do business with Iran most likely pissing off the huge sections of Iraqis that will have an issue with it.

We certainly have old jets lying around to deliver right now. We certainly need the money. Honestly I think the days of the US being a supplier of weapons to the world for any significant amount of money are over. It comes at too high a price.I really prey Bagdad falling is not an option for our government. Yeah, pride is quite a bit of it. I mean what was the purpose in getting rid of Saddam if you are going to let worse people move in and take over. I have heard talking heads on TV saying getting rid of Saddam was stupid. The boys scouts probably could have taken over Iraq if sent there. Having a little trouble with the quoting control but to answer the bottom part I agree with you. We should have had much better control in the way we left the country but we didn't. This is going to be such a fast moving process that our heads will spin trying to keep up with it in real time. The link about the Iranians TU-25s is unconfirmed so far but I think it is a step in the direcdtion that will help us to not re-invade with massive boots on the ground. The history if the Islamic State preceded us by 1000 years and our involvement will only be a footnote in another 1000 years.

Its a few pilots operating the planes in the article. I guess thats better than 10's of 1000's of troops marching into Iraq. We still have issues with Iran. It has certainly been 6 months since we were to hash out Irans nuke program. They haven't said anything of it that I know.

The ISIS is supposedly in possession of anti air craft missles we left for the Iraqis. When did we learn? We can sell old air craft that we can shoot down later if we wish.

Yes we could sell them jets but the Russians are delivering the first 25 of the first order of jets. Why would the Iraqi's want to do anything to extend their relationship to us? They want us out and Iran and the Russians are providing that way out. Should we maintain and defend our embassy? Hell yess!! Should we realize that our time dominating that part of the world is over? Hell yes!!

But then I also thought their take over of Crimea was necessary and acceptable. Even though our government has gotten delusional about money, the embassy was almost a $billion and that should not be abandoned lightly. I disagree with you. If in fact what we have been doing there is dominating I think we should still be doing it and being a bit more aggressive about it. "You will sell us oil for this amount and we will let you be, and protect you from.......".

The Kurds are screwed if they don't join forces with Iran and Russia. I think that is the way they will continue to exist. ISIS is here to stay. I watched a map of the fluctuations of the Islamic State over the last 2,500 years in 100 year increments and it brought it all into prospective for me. WE are only a temporary dominant force in the region and we are in the last few minutes of that dominance.

Can you give me a link to that map. Sounds interesting.
It seems the Kurds are just up there living life as a new country.
"They" say there are Russian nukes to be had (because the breakup and splintering of the Russian nukes was such a great idea). The game has changed. We need to be dominate the best we can be for as long as possible. It really is a different world out there. Maybe i am pessimistic.
