My take on his playing. Too fast and "all over the place" on the "top" only, not enough "bottom" in his sound. Too many cymbals that are not clean...in fact some times it seems that is all he is playing is cymbals and it sounds chaotic. This is coming from my ears and my gut, not my own technical ability LOL. I have the same feeling. Very "top" sounding, thin, harsh and cold.

^^^^ Yes, exactly. It is horrible and I do not understand why they did not find someone competent. It said in the law suit Joey gets paid for these concerts and has to pay whoever replaces him 10% of his fee. Further proof these guys have shared everything 20% each.

From the recent videos posted, I think the guy is getting better. The January videos with him were terrible. Yes Toys was faster but personally it reminded me of how fast they used to play it in the 70s, which I do prefer. It has more energy. I would also say that the start of toys was a mess but they ended up settling in and it sounded better after the first 30 seconds to a minute. Toys was almost always played fast back in the 70's.
It seems like the band doesn't really rehearse with him, they seem very uncomfortable, they haven't really gelled overall and I do think more practice would help. The guy doesn't have Joey's feel and his natural feel does not fit the songs. I know I've heard that the band doesn't care for rehearsing too much and I understand it at their age, they've played most of their set a million times and it probably gets tiring in practice(it would help if they expanded their set, they've been rotating a lot of the same songs for the last 10-20 years, even the "gems" they pull out, how about some bone to bone or get the lead out?)...but they have a new drummer so I hope they're putting in the work. Having him play to a click track in the studio won't cut it. He has to get familiar playing with the guys and getting a feel for their tendencies as players.

Interesting indeed... Thanks a lot for sharing, great find! I think that the band understood as the 5 guys, will try hard to get Joey back. They must be like family after all this time and all they've been through. So I can't imagine any of them sacrificing one of them for any "gain"... And the band understood as the whole entertainment machine with managers and whatever not, will also try to do the same. This time for the money and fame, but still... So I am hopeful and moderately optimistic (just not to be too badly let down, in case things go south).

Oh cool. Hopefully this mess will get sorted. It's not a great start to the 50th anniversary year

If each member is getting $50k to play each night (I have no idea, but Brittany for $30 or $40million for her contract) then brad had to pay whomever $5000 each night.

Needed a better contract like Aerosmith has.

Needed a better contract like Aerosmith has. Adler was unlucky. He made some mistakes but so did Slash. I love Adler's drumming. The current drummer Frank is a good guy but he doesn't have the GNR sound - that's being very polite.

The few appearances Adler made were just phenomenal.. Instantly made them sound that much better.
